MESSAGE FROM RICKY

Dear Friends,

Our hearts break over the scenes of destruction and the loss of life all across our state from this past weeks storms. Already our Annual Conference's Disaster Response Committee is on site assessing needs and delivering emergency relief. On our Facebook page is a list of supplies that we encourage you to donate that we will take to the impacted areas, items such as bottled water, cleaning supplies, baby formula, and toiletries. We also encourage you to give to our Disaster Relief fund through the church. We will turn around these funds quickly. 100% of these donations go directly to people in need, because the administrative costs are paid for by the denomination.

Additionally, we are all devastated by the recent school shooting in Nashville. While the frequency of these shootings make it seem "normal" we know deeply that it is not. In our broken world, broken people and broken systems lead to death, and this is not God's will.

In times like these, we hold on to the hope of Resurrection, which is the story that we enter into this coming week. Holy Week begins with the commemoration of Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem. During our 9 a.m. service our choir and musicians will offer their Easter music program, to lift our hearts as we hear once again the story of Jesus' passion, that bring us the victory over death. This is a message we all need to hear! We'll see you Sunday and I hope you consider inviting someone who needs to hear this Good News!

Grace and Peace

MESSAGE FROM RUTH ANN GIBSON

Dear Church,

By this time in March, the Staff-Parish Relations Committee has usually let the congregation know the status of the pastoral assignments for First United Methodist Church Clinton. That is not the case this year—primarily because of the impact of disaffiliation.

Throughout the Mississippi Annual Conference, churches have been voting on whether to disaffiliate, appointed clergy have been determining whether to remain part of the United Methodist Church, and our conference Bishop and her cabinet have been considering clergy assignments—all concurrently.

The churches voting on disaffiliation have until March 31 to complete their vote for the conference to affirm the disaffiliations at its annual meeting at the end of June.

Because all these decisions are happening simultaneously, the appointment process has been slowed. Consider that we have churches voting to disaffiliate and their pastors deciding to remain United Methodist, churches voting to disaffiliate and their pastors deciding to leave with them, churches deciding to remain UMC and their pastors choosing to leave the UMC, churches remaining UMC but requesting a new pastor, plus the usual number of retirements. Consequently, the pastoral appointment processes this year has been in an unusual state of flux.

The Staff-Parish Relations Committee will let you know as soon as there is information on any pastoral assignment changes regarding Clinton First. Please be patient and keep Bishop Lewis, the cabinet, our church, and our pastors and staff in your prayers during this process.

Sincerely,

Ruth Ann Gibson

Chair, SPRC

CARE NIGHTS

Our next Care Nights at First United Methodist Church Clinton is coming up on March 29th! We will have Ashley Hannah from the Attorney General's office with us at 6 PM in the worship center to talk about something that is a BIG topic in the life of kids and youth in 2023: cell phone safety! We hope you'll join us on March 29th. Invite a friend and we will see you there!

EGGS & CANDY NEEDED

The annual FUMC Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Sunday, April 9th during the Sunday School hour. If you would like to donate pre-stuffed Easter eggs or individually wrapped nut-free candy for this event, we will have containers stationed in the narthex of the sanctuary, the hallway of the Education building, and in the church office. Candy should be able to fit into a plastic Easter egg. Suckers, unfortunately, DO NOT fit into the eggs. This event gives us a wonderful opportunity to spread the Easter story and the love of Christ to young and old alike. Thank you for the generosity you have always shown in supporting this fun ministry to our children. Questions? Contact Nikki Parsons or Lauren Beckmann.

MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK

EASTER MUSIC PROGRAM

By. Tommy Steadman

On Palm Sunday, April, 2, 2023, at 9:00am, the Sanctuary Choir of Clinton First United Methodist Church will present their annual Easter Music program during the morning worship service. The service will include many old favorites, including Crown Him With Many Crowns, The Old Rugged Cross, and Because He Lives, as well as several newer songs. Soloists are Jalysa Jones, Pam Perna, Layne Allen, and Catherine Stewart. Tony Walker will narrate between musical selections telling the Easter story and the passion of our Lord. The choir will be accompanied by pianist, Dr. Brenda Wilder and organist, Virginia Miller. Several other instrumentalists will be joining us, including a string quartet. It is our prayer that you will be led to the foot of cross and then be blessed there as we remember His supreme sacrifice of Himself, given to us on the cross, and His glorious resurrection on that very first Easter morning.
