From the Director: Welcome Back to Campus
As summer turns to fall, Monmouth University is again abuzz with students. On a warm day walking around campus, it almost feels like a return to normal. Once indoors, however, we’re reminded of the challenges ahead as we all mask up and maintain some distance. The University has also put into place testing protocols to help ensure the safety of our community.
The UCI staff would like to extend a special welcome to Dr. Pamela E. Scott-Johnson, Monmouth’s new provost/senior vice president for academic affairs and professor of psychology. Dr. Scott-Johnson joins Monmouth after serving as the dean of the College of Natural and Social Sciences at California State University, Los Angeles, and a very distinguished career as an administrator, educator and researcher.
The year ahead promises to be a busy one for the UCI. The havoc wreaked by Hurricane Ida reminds us how much more work needs to be done to make our coastal communities more resilient in the face of sea level rise and coastal storms. In November, President Biden will be in Glasgow, Scotland, meeting with international leaders as they negotiate further commitments to address climate change. Closer to home, there are numerous proposals for offshore wind development projects off the New Jersey coast that are undergoing project and environmental reviews. At the UCI, we look forward to doing our part working with faculty, students and other partners to develop solutions and a consensus for action.
