A response from your called Leaders at Trinity

The events of Wednesday, January 6, 2021 have generated a range of emotions, as domestic terrorists stormed the US Capitol Building. On top of Covid-19, racial discrimination, a divisive election, our feelings have exploded. From anger to profound sadness, numb surprise to utter disbelief, helplessness to grief, unanswered and unasked questions – this event has triggered us in ways maybe unlike anything else.
We have talked to a few of you already, and believe we are all at a loss of what to, what to say, as children of God, as a church community, as a nation.
We can pray, and we do for the four people who died Ashil, Kevin, Benjamin, and Rosanne. For the elected leaders, forced to evacuate. For the mob who used hate, chaos and fear to convey a message.
We pray for President Trump, who incited the violence and encouraged the attack.
We condemn the conspiracy theories and lies spoken by our political leaders to the people, and the division that continues to be revealed.
We condemn the use of God’s name as a ploy in these unjust acts of vengeance.
On Epiphany, we were reminded that we are a broken people. Dear friends, this is what our nation has been, and who we are, but it isn’t who we want to be.
We are called by Christ, through the waters of baptism, to be transformed. We are called to unity, love, and grace. We are called to care for our neighbors. We are called by the Good News, to tell the Good news, and live the Good news. These are not flippant ideals, but realistic promises of who we are as the Church. More than ever, the Church matters.
Our congregation is a safe place for us to converse, wrestle, disagree, question, and search together. We are here with you and for you.
We may not always know what to say or what to do, but we accompany each other through the uncertain times and uncertain places, to remind one another of Emmanuel, God is with you.
May God’s Peace, cover us now and always.

A Statement from the Bishops of Region 2

Epiphany 2021
Dear People of Region Two of our Evangelical Lutheran Church in America,
There are times when events in our nation and world are shocking – we search for words to try to make sense of what we are seeing on television. Yesterday’s events at the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. are no different, and have left us with a sense of foreboding, concern, disbelief, anger, sadness… “Are we really seeing this?” “Is it possible such a thing is happening in this country, at the very seat of our democracy?”
As bishops serving in Region 2, we stand united in calling upon elected leaders of all political parties to call for an end to this violence. We decry any leaders who would incite an assault on the democratic processes of our great nation, and call upon them to publicly renounce their calls for people to storm the Capitol. Their actions have put our elected leaders and members of law enforcement in danger. We pray for an end to this violence and for the safety of those who are in danger.
We urge the people of our congregations and ministries and all people of faith and good will to pray for peace and a quick restoration to order, as well as a peaceful transition of power in the coming two weeks. We pray –
- for an end to the rancor of the deep political divisions that have plagued this country in recent times,
- for those who feel their voices are not being heard to find more productive and peaceful ways to register their concerns,
- for the willingness for our leaders to work with those with whom they may differ to advocate for the needs of all the people they have been called to serve,
- for the Peace and Reconciliation of Christ to reign in our hearts. Amen
Peace,
Bp. Murray Finck, Southwest California Synod
Bp. Andy Taylor, Pacifica Synod
Bp. Deborah Hutterer, Grand Canyon Synod
Bp. Jim Gonia, Rocky Mountain Synod
Bp. Mark W. Holmerud, Sierra Pacific Synod

Helping kids focus on being kids

When children and teens have what they need to meet their day-to-day clothing and hygiene needs, they no longer need to focus on staying warm or facing the stigma of appearing "unkempt". Access to basic needs infuses a sense of normalcy, belonging and self-worth into their lives, better preparing them for school and healthy relationships.
A partnership of Homeward Alliance and Family Housing Network, the Family Food and Children's/Teen Clothing Closet provides 24/7 access to non-profit and agency partners-- allowing case workers, counselors and others to meet immediate needs for food, hygiene, diapers, clothing and warm winter gear. One case worker told stated, "the closet helped me build my relationship with my teenage client when I was able to get her the clothing she needed."
HOW TO HELP! Click HERE to donate.
If you are interested in donating children's clothing and other items to the closet, please click HERE for details. Donation drop-offs resume Wednesday, January 13. The greatest needs are gift cards and monetary donations to help fill gaps in donations and special sizes.

When does weather cancel church?
Trinity does not have an official cancellation policy, but the rule of the thumb that leadership has agreed upon is that weekly church events will be canceled when Poudre School District delays or cancels events. On the weekends, worship will not be canceled. As always, use your best judgment in poor weather conditions, and know that you are still loved by God if you miss Bible Study, Choir, or Worship. We will post cancellations to our website, facebook page, and a mass email to all of you.
