"What was Jesus doing between Christmas and Easter?" was the theme of our first 2021 Elementary Chapel. Little is said about Jesus' life between His birth and the beginning of His ministry except an important story when he was 12. Using Luke 2:40, 52 as key verses, the students learned that the Bible twice mentions that Jesus grew in wisdom, stature and favor with God and men. Next week we will look a little closer at the importance of wisdom in our lives. Click here to enjoy the chapel.

happybirthdayChapel Recap

For our first middle school Chapel of 2021, we were honored to welcome back one of our most beloved speakers to campus, Daniel Orduña. Daniel co-pastors at Narrative in Costa Mesa, but the MCS community holds a special place in his heart! Going into the new year, Daniel spoke to our students from Matthew 7:24-27, and about how important it is build our solid foundation on Jesus alone. He asked the students to reflect upon what other parts of our foundation was exposed when the storms of 2020 came. When we have other things mixed into our foundation along with Jesus, it weakens the foundation.  He used the following math equations to drive home the point for the students.
"Jesus + something = NOTHING"
"Jesus + nothing = EVERYTHING"

Finally, Daniel encouraged the students to examine their foundation and determine what things have been mixed into their foundation that should be instead part of the building blocks on top of their firm foundation? For video highlights of Chapel, follow us on Instagram.

       Christmas Door Decorating Contest Results

BRYANT

COLLIER

SHELTON

Our Annual Christmas Door Decorating Contest did not disappoint this year!  The students brought a level of creativity that we have not yet seen, as they brought the theme of "Christmas in Quarantine" to life on their doors, through one of the 3 selected Christmas story scriptures! The judges were in awe at the creative use of the "required items" including masks, toilet paper roles, water bottles, etc. Each of the doors was impressive in their own way, and there were no 2 alike! With the 8th graders actually being quarantined during the competition, they held their own individual competitions on their bedroom doors, and the students voted on their favorite!

Each of the amazing doors can be seen on our Instagram, but here are your winning doors for 2020:

Best 6th grade door: Mrs. Bryant's Homeroom
Best 7th grade door: Mrs. Collier's Homeroom
Best 8th grade door: Kaelin Rieke's Door
Best Overall Door: Mrs. Shelton's Door

       Nurses Corner

Happy New Year! Over the holiday season, Orange County saw a surge in COVID-19 cases. We appreciate your care and concern in keeping your children home and speaking to your physician about testing if they have developed any of the following symptoms:
  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • fatigue (feeling tired)
  • muscle or body aches
  • headache
  • new loss of taste or smell
  • sore throat, congestion or runny nose
  • nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
Please note that cases in an otherwise healthy individual often appear as a minor cold.

CDPH did
release new quarantine guidelines for exposure.
  • All asymptomatic close contacts (within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) may discontinue quarantine after Day 10 from the date of last exposure with or without testing.

  • All exposed asymptomatic contacts permitted to reduce the quarantine period to less than 14 days must:
    • Adhere strictly to all recommended non-pharmaceutical interventions, including wearing face coverings at all times, maintaining a distance of at least 6 feet from others and the interventions required below, through Day 14.
    • Self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms through Day 14 and if symptoms occur, immediately self-isolate and contact their local public health department or healthcare provider and seek testing.
*Note: If quarantining because of a positive family member, positive family member should be isolated away from the rest of the family. In cases where this is not possible, exposure continues during the 10 day contagious period of the positive member. Therefore, LAST exposure for other members is on the final day of that period and necessitates quarantining an additional 10 days.
