BIENVENIDOS ... or welcome to The Drift. If you are new to there Scuba Shack and Village Tan Kah family, this is our newsletter that keeps you up to date with what is happening here on COZUMEL, as well as your favorite dive shop and hotel. We sure hope that you like it!

A HUGE GRACIAS to everyone for coming to visit us recently. We have been busy with divers, and rain, and wind and.... well, the weather !
We are here for you !
Well, the news about COVID in the U.S. lately has been worrisome. I don't know about you but here in Cozumel things have stayed pretty good all summer. We continue to mask up, keep good social distancing practices, additional sanitation practices and in general being extra vigilant as we go about our normal routine.

We have had to increase all of our safety procedures in order to be able to work, stay open and comply with COVID restrictions here. These precautions also help to protect the staff that maintain Village Tan Kah, work in the Dive Shop and work on the boats. We are here to serve you and protect you as well as ourselves.
Our rooms are sanitized with a natural essential oil anti-fungal and anti-bacterial spray. This insures that your rooms are clean and sanitized for your arrival. In addition, when you arrive to he hotel, your luggage will be sanitized as well. We do this to disinfect your luggage that has been handled by a number of different people while you were traveling to us.
Changes to breakfast
We are still able to offer breakfast but almost everything is in individual servings. Each person gets to use their own tongs to serve themselves.
Look at all the bright colors
Wrapped utelsils

Taking your temperature
Surface Interval - no hands !
Can you ever have enough gel?
So we and all of the businesses here in Cozumel are taking all of the necessary precautions to insure that you have a safe and enjoyable trip here !
This is the largest private hospital on the island, and has built their own lab for testing for Covid. They offer both rapid and PCR tests, as well as antibody tests. Results for the PCR test come back within a day or two. That is really nice, especially if you need it in order to travel to certain places.
It is official -
Carnaval 2021
is cancelled
Not that this is any surprise, but on Dec 7, Carnaval 2021 was officially cancelled. So if you make a point of coming during Carnaval, well still come and visit. We miss you. And Carnaval 2022 will be better than ever !
Do you need a gift idea for that

Don't let the sun set.....
Don't let the sun set on your vacation plans...... we are here, safe and ready to take you diving. Need to find a flight?? Here is who is flying here and which days of the week.....
Welcome back CANADA !!!!
Well, it sure has been a while since we have seen you, eh?? :) We have missed you.
The announced flight schedule is:
  • Montreal - arriving every Monday
  • Toronto - beginning Fri, Dec 25
American continues to lead with the most flights each week:
  • Dallas - now flying every day, 2 flights a day during the holidays
  • Miami - daily
  • Charlotte - Saturdays
  • Chicago - Saturdays

The haved added in more flights so that it is easier to get here.
  • Houston - every day of the week
  • Chicago - Saturdays
  • Denver - Saturdays

As you can see, United have amped up their flights since Thanksgiving.
WestJet will begin it's operations with a direct flight from Toronto, every Sat beginning on Jan 9.
Even though Delta no longer operates flights to Cozumel, they do offer service with their code share partner - Interjet via Mexico City. I have taken that flight a number of times and I am impressed with how well the service is.
  • Mexico City - Mon, Wed, Fri and Sun
Still skeptical about air travel safety??
I get it - worrying about the flying. Well, the US Transportation Command did an indepth study on the transmission of Covid on airplanes, because they are transporting military and their families. They have EXTREMELY positive info on it. Read more..... the airport and the airplane are MUCH safer than grocery stores and restaurants.
Fishing in the Galapagos?
Seriously? I thought that they had a Marine Park. Well, in desperate times, like COVID, some people take desperate measures. And that is what is going on in the Galapagos. A fleet of 216 Chinese fishing boats are parked outside the Galapagos Marine Park and illegally entering into it and indiscriminently taking whatever they can find out of the water. Many of these boats are illegal to fish in CHINESE WATERS. Yet there they are.... Unbelievable. Please sign this petition to help save them !
What a beautiful transformation.........
There is a new painting in town, one that everyone can see and enjoy ! And we have all seen it before.....
Thanks to some local artists that thought it was about time to make this eye sore look beautiful ! They did such a great job ! Now everyone can enjoy it, especially if you are having dinner at Le Chef.
We hope you can make a visit soon !
