Celebrate Freedom Week is Next Week
Each year, during the week that includes September 17, Texas schools honor Celebrate Freedom Week to highlight the values on which the United States was founded as well as the sacrifices that were made for freedom in the founding of the country. Students learn about the intent, meaning, and importance of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. Celebrate Freedom Week coincides with Constitution Week, established by the U.S. Congress to encourage all Americans to learn about the Constitution. Both Celebrate Freedom Week and Constitution Week focus on September 17th, the date in 1787 when delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution. Congress has also designated September 17 of each year as Constitution Day.
Friday, CMS will be honoring Celebrate Freedom Week & Constitution Day. In our social studies classrooms, our students will learn appropriate instruction concerning the intent, meaning, and importance of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution, including the Bill of Rights, in their historical context. Per Board Policy EHBK (Legal), “the study of the Declaration of Independence must include the study of the relationship of the ideas expressed in that document to subsequent American history, including the relationship of its ideas to the rich diversity of our people as a nation of immigrants, the American Revolution, the formulation of the United States Constitution, and the abolitionist movement, which led to the Emancipation Proclamation and the women’s suffrage movement.” Additionally, students in grades 3-12 will engage in recitation of a portion of the Declaration of Independence. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your campus administrators.

STOPit - Hotline reporting system
STOPit is an online reporting tool that allows us the opportunity to intervene with at risk students before they hurt themselves or someone else. It also expands beyond helping those at immediate risk of self-harm but also to support students who are struggling socially or emotionally in other areas.
Our students will have access to the STOPit mobile app which has two simple but powerful features.
Report can be used by students to report incidents to school contacts anonymously.
Messenger can be used to engage in anonymous two-way communication with school contacts.
Both Report and Messenger empower students to stand up for themselves and for one another. They can use STOPit to reach out for help if they or a peer are facing a personal crisis or experiencing bullying, abuse, self-harm, suicidal ideation, or are otherwise in need of assistance. Our goal with STOPit is to create safer, kinder, school communities both online and off.
No student information is needed to use STOPit. The only way personally identifiable information will be accessible through STOPit is if a student voluntarily includes it within the content of a report or message.
You can find more information about STOPit on our CMS Counseling Page under the Counseling Tab. If you have any questions, feel free to contact one of our counselors or administrators.
Thank you,
Counselors...
