Elmhurst Firefighters Collect Toys for Elmhurst Hospital’s Pediatric Patients
The Elmhurst Fire Department has organized a toy drive to benefit children at Elmhurst Hospital this holiday season. New, unwrapped toys for children of all ages will be collected at Fire Station #1, 404 N. York Street, Fire Station #2, 601 S. York Street, and City Hall 209 N. York St. Toys will be accepted now through December 10th. Santa has turned in his sleigh for a fire truck this year and will be delivering the collected toys to the hospital. Elmhurst Hospital employees will deliver the appropriate toy to each child. For more information about the toy collection, please call 630-530-3090.
Free Leaf Pickup
A free leaf collection for residents who live within city limits will take place again on December 2-4, on your regular refuse collection day. Leaves must be kept separated from other yard waste and placed at the curb in clearly marked cans, cardboard boxes, or Kraft paper bags. Cans and boxes will be left on the parkway following collection. Although leaves may be placed in marked cans, please be aware that a combination of precipitation and low temperatures may cause the contents to freeze. PUBLIC SAFETY WARNING: 
INCREASED CASES CAUSE INCREASED TIER 2 MITIGATION MEASURES

Region 8 has surpassed the Department of Public Health's COVID-19 threshold of 8% positivity rate with a 7 day average positivity rate of 13.8%. On November 9th, Governor Pritzker announced increased Tier 2 restrictions for Region 8 (including all of DuPage County) that began on Wednesday, November 11th. 

The measures include but are not limited to the closure of all indoor dining operations for bars & restaurants and operational time restrictions of 6:00 a.m.-11:00p.m. for outdoor dining, carry-out, delivery, and curbside services. New restrictions are also placed on private meetings and events, lowering participation to 10 guests. A list detailing required Tier 2 Resurgence Mitigations can be found here. 

Detailed restrictions are listed as follows:

Bars
  • No indoor service
  • All outside bar service closes at 11 p.m.
  • All bar patrons should be seated at tables outside
  • No ordering, seating, or congregating at bar (bar stools should be removed)
  • Tables should be 6 feet apart 
  • No standing or congregating indoors or outdoors while waiting for a table or exiting
  • No dancing or standing indoors
  • Reservations required for each party
  • No seating of multiple parties at one table
  • Reduce party size from 10 to 6


Meetings, Social Events, Gatherings 
  • No party buses
  • Gaming and casinos close at 11 p.m., are limited to 25 percent capacity, and follow mitigations for bars and restaurants, if applicable
  • Maximum indoor/outdoor gathering size = 10
  • Applicable to professional, cultural and social group gatherings
  • Not applicable to students participating in-person classroom learning 
  • This does not reduce the overall facility capacity dictated by general business guidance such as office, retail, etc.
  • Not applicable to sports; see sports guidance here

 
Restaurants 
  • No indoor dining or bar service
  • All outdoor dining closes at 11 p.m.
  • Outside dining tables should be 6 feet apart
  • No standing or congregating indoors or outdoors while waiting for a table or exiting
  • Reservations required for each party

To return to Phase 4, COVID-19 positivity rate averages must be less than or equal to 6.5% over a 3-day period. If the positivity rate averages continue to increase, IDPH will determine if additional mitigations are needed.

To help reduce mitigation measures, the spread of COVID-19 must decrease. Please do your part to stop the spread and protect your community. You can help support your local businesses by acting responsibly to slow the spread of illness.

  • Maintain a 6 feet social distance minimum.
  • Wear a face mask when in public. 
  • Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Clean and sanitize commonly used surfaces.
  • Quarantine for 14 days if returning from a COVID-19 hotspot. 
  • Avoid group gatherings.
  • Stay home when you are sick or experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness with fever, cough, or difficulty breathing.

  • Avoid contact with others that are sick or experiencing COVID-19 like symptoms.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

Holiday Safety Reminders During the COVID-19 Pandemic 

Since COVID-19 has impacted our society, we have missed out on many community and family traditions. Fall and winter celebrations, such as Thanksgiving, Día de la Virgen de Guadalupe, Hanukah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, and New Year’s, typically include large gatherings of families and friends, crowded parties, and travel that may put people at increased risk for COVID-19. We understand that this year, holiday gatherings may not be what anyone had hoped for, however we are asking our community members to take the safety precautions necessary to protect themselves, their friends, family and our community from COVID-19. Before you celebrate, please consider these Holiday Season Safety Tips provided by IDPH.

COVID-19 ALL SPORTS POLICY

The following guidance was issued by the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) which pertains to the risk level of all youth and adult recreational sports, including, but not limited to, school-based sports (high school and elementary school), travel clubs, private leagues and clubs, recreational leagues and centers, and park district sports programs. A total of 484 test were administered on Monday, November 9th and 518 tests on Tuesday, November 10th. The City of Elmhurst is thankful to partnering organizers for the ability to offer this event to the community.

There are several ways to provide public comment during these meetings including online and in person. The City has added a call-in option for public comment.
