Principal's Corner
Dear HCE Parents and Guardians,
Happy New Year! I know that many are happy to see 2020 in the rear view mirror but I like to consider the lessons learned from each year to help me grow in the upcoming one. I certainly had many opportunities for learning. A short year ago we knew "school" as in-person, face to face instruction. We now have another instructional option that is working well for many students across the district. Our distance learners are meeting synchronously with teachers each day and making progress just like our in person learners. This is a lesson learned. Thank you 2020! While we have always cared deeply for our students we have learned that connections are more than just important, they are essential. This is a lesson learned. Thank you 2020! As the first days of 2021 have passed I wonder with excitement for the lessons that the upcoming days will teach me. Welcome 2021!
Warm Regards,
Mrs. Komas

K4 and K5 Registration for 2021-22

With consideration of our current health and safety procedures we will be offering a recorded information session that will highlight our K4 and K5 programs. The video information session will share curriculum overview as well as an opportunity to have a "peek" into the classrooms. There will be a virtual Q&A session for parents and guardians who want to ask questions that remain after viewing the video.

The links for the Q&A sessions are:

Online K4 and K5 Student registration for 2021-22 opens on Monday, January 25.

To be considered in the K4 AM/PM selection "lottery" you must register your child by February 14.
Winter Recess Is FUN!
Students will go outside for recess when the temperature / wind chill is above 0 degrees. Please be prepared for the weather conditions by making sure your child has a warm winter jacket, hat, gloves, snow pants and boots. When snow arrives, students without boots and snow pants will only be able to play on the blacktop area. It is also a good idea to send an extra pair of socks along on those snowy days so your child can have dry feet after recess time. It is also very helpful to have your child's clothing labeled with their name.

January Book of the Month
The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes by Mark Pett
Being Perfect Is Overrated! Beatrice Bottomwell has NEVER (not once!) made a mistake. She never forgets her math homework, she never wears mismatched socks, and she ALWAYS wins the yearly talent show at school. In fact, the entire town calls her The Girl Who Never Makes Mistakes! One day, the inevitable happens: Beatrice makes a huge mistake in front of everyone! But in the end, readers (and perfectionists) will realize that life is more fun when you enjoy everything―even the mistakes.
Don't forget to ask your child about their discoveries from this book and WHO the special reader was for their class.
