Drainage and Water Quality Improvements Coming Soon to Saga Bay 1.7 Sub-Basin

Work will soon begin on the Saga Bay 1.7 Sub-Basin Water Quality Improvement Project, which will improve the stormwater management system and treat runoff pollutants within this sub-basin as well as roadway resurfacing.

The project is tentatively scheduled to commence the second week of February 2022 and is anticipated to be substantially complete by August 2022. The cost of the project is $838,397.07, which is largely being covered through a $600,000 grant Town staff secured from Florida Department of Environmental Protection (the remaining cost will come from the Stormwater Utility Fund).

Florida's Chief Resilience Officer Tours Town's 8.4-Acre Site

On January 5, Dr. Wesley Brooks, State of Florida's new Chief Resilience Officer, toured the Town's 8.4-acre parcel located by SW 184 Street and Old Cutler Road, along with Mayor Meerbott and Town Manager Casals. Dr. Brooks is visiting some of the sites included in Florida Department of Environmental Protection's (FDEP) Statewide Flooding and Sea Level Rise Resilience Plan.

The site will be preserved as a green space for resiliency purposes but will need cleaning and restoration to enhance its environmental value. Working closely with Senator Ileana Garcia, Town staff secured a $250,000 grant from FDEP to help cover the cost of restoration.
