A NOTE FROM NATHAN

Last weekend, I had the privilege of being in Indiana for my niece’s high school graduation. Emily graduated a semester early – something that would have not occurred to me at the age of 17, let alone be something I could have achieved. So, I was curious, “What’s the hurry?” Her answer was simple: “I’m just ready for the next chapter.” Aren’t we all?

After two years of dealing with COVID, along with the complexities it has brought to our lives, we are all ready for the next chapter. We are a ready for something new. And there are certainly glimpses of it – signs of hope that things are beginning to normalize, positive indications that the worst is behind us, signals of optimism that a new day is dawning. Do you see them?

That’s the question God asks through Isaiah, “Behold, I am about to do a new thing, now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?” (Isaiah 43:19). The truth is, no matter what we see, God is always doing a new thing. Even through a surging virus or divisiveness in our families or natural disasters that destroy communities, God is always doing something new. Do you not perceive it?

I realize, it’s not always so easy to see. Light is hard to find when you feel like you are surrounded by darkness. Yet, we put our faith in a God who brings life out of death. That is our story. We place our hope and trust in a God of resurrection.

Which is the reason we will use this text from Isaiah as our guiding verse for 2022. The theme for this year is Reboot – it’s time for us to recognize that no matter what challenges we may continue to face or what new obstacles are to come, God is in our midst doing something new. It’s time for us to not only perceive it, but embrace it and live into it faithfully.

I hope in this new year, you will look for ways to be part of the new thing(s) God is doing through the ministry of Sandy Springs Christian Church – whether that is serving in a new role, participating in a new program or even reconnecting to our community of faith. I’m excited about 2022 and look forward to seeing what new thing(s) God will do through our shared ministry.

Peace,

Nathan

Glow

A Sermon Series for the season of Epiphany

by Rev. Dr. Nathan C. Brown

“You are the light of the world” -- that’s what Jesus says, according to Matthew 5:14. He doesn’t say, “you should,” or “you could” or “you can.” No, he says, “You are the light of the world," which means we glow. Each and every one of us emanates light. Yes, sometimes we forget. Sometimes we fail to recognize it. Sometimes we have a hard time trusting it. Perhaps we are not putting it under a bushel basket, but sometimes we do try to hide it. So, during this season of light, we call Epiphany, let us spend some time in worship reflecting on how we might spend less time living in woe and start learning to embrace our glow.

WEEK OF COMPASSION.png

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!

SSCC's Members and friends generously contributed $450.00 to the DOC's Special Christmas offering which helps specifically in our Region.

In addition, each year we receive a special offering during the Christmas Eve worship service, 100% of which is designated toward a specific ministry. This year, because of the degree of need, our special offering of a remarkable $11,150.00 went to Week of Compassion, earmarked for tornado recovery and relief. Thank you for your compassion and generosity as we seek to help those in need.
