From Exec Dir of Online Education, Tom Smith

Hello CEC Families,

Welcome back students and families! It has been great to hear how students spent their week off from classes and to learn more about what is coming up this spring. The last quarter of our school year together includes testing, talent shows, graduation, advising, weekly activities, club meetings, a mascot reveal, and planning for summer.

I encourage everyone to utilize our flexible schedule and student services in order to thrive in class and to have fun with clubs and activities. Students have access daily to our tutoring team, their Teams classrooms, and to the LMS. Along with their teachers, students can also contact our student support coordinator, Mrs. Crulo, for some additional support. I hope you all have a great weekend!

Director of Admissions Update

Coming Soon: Residency Affidavits

State of Colorado Residency forms are required every year for all students enrolled in a public online school in the state of Colorado. CEC Online Campus will be emailing forms to all currently enrolled families as a part of the annual recertification process.

Keep an eye on your inbox over the next week for an email from Adobe Sign. In most cases, the form will be sent to the primary contact on file for your student. The password will be your student’s date of birth MMDDYYYY, and you will receive daily reminders to complete the form until it is signed. Thank you for your prompt attention to this!

CEC Online Campus Withdrawal Process

If your enrollment plans change and you decide to enroll your student in another school, you must notify CEC Online Campus and complete our withdrawal form. Please contact Director of Admissions Sarah Whetstone (sarah.whetstone@coloradoearlycolleges.org) to inquire about the withdrawal process as soon as possible when deciding to transition to another school or program. Your continued communication with us is greatly valued and appreciated!

Transcripts Now Available for High School Students

Transcripts for high school students (grades 9-12) are now available through Parchment.

More information on the ordering process and a link to the CEC Online Campus Parchment portal can be found here: Transcripts & Records - Colorado Early Colleges

Middle School report cards for the 2022-2023 school year are available in student and guardian Infinite Campus portals under Documents > Report Card.

Enrollment for 2023-2024 is Open Now!

Enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year is open! When you refer a friend to a CEC school and they remain enrolled through October 31st of their first semester, you will receive a $100 gift for a full-time student or a $50 gift for a part-time student.

More information on our Refer-a-Friend program can be found here: Refer-A-Friend - Colorado Early Colleges

Advising Team Update

Hello students and families,

Advising appointments have started for the Fall 2023 semester. Invites to schedule with your advisor have been sent to both student and guardian emails. Reminders to schedule for those who haven’t will be going out this week, as well as periodically through the rest of the semester. Please schedule ASAP!

Students, we have about 7 weeks left of the semester, so it’s imperative you keep up with your classes and should be about 65% done with your courses in Spark and Aleks.

College students, make sure to check your D2L grade periodically and be prepared to go over these grades or log into your D2L accounts in your advising appointment. We want to make sure you’re wrapping up this semester on a strong note!

We look forward to meeting with you all over the next couple of months!

Mr. Dukes and Ms. Martinez

Spring Testing Update

This Spring we will have in person testing for SAT, PSAT and CMAS. E-mails have gone out asking for location choices and offering details on dates and locations. Please contact laura.huber@coloradoearlycolleges.org with any questions or concerns.

Staff Spotlight!

This week we would like to spotlight Mr. Zach Hunt, a High School English Teacher who started at CEC Colorado Springs in 2010. He moved to Seattle in 2015 and then back to CEC in 2018.

Education profile: Bachelor's Degree in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing as well as a Teaching License.

Mr. Hunt shares with us, "I teach High School English and Creative Writing. I think of teaching like facilitating. My goal is to teach the students how to teach themselves.

Watching the students take interest in the writing and reading and explore ideas that are new to them is the most exciting thing to me.

CECOC allows students to accomplish as much or more schooling than regular students while also pursuing interests outside of school. This allows for a more balanced life."

Thank you Mr. Hunt for your many years of service at different locations within CEC since 2010!

Staff Spotlight!

CECOLC would also like to spotlight Mrs. Maggie Crulo, our Student Service Coordinator.

Education Profile:  Bachelors in Family and Human Development

Mrs. Crulo shares this with us: "I feel like I wear many hats at the online school. I run all of the attendance reports in Spark, manage both the HS and MS Basecamps, and work one on one with a lot of our students (which is my favorite part of the job). I just put together a trip for our students to travel abroad for next year which I think will be such a great addition to our program. (see below)

Mrs. Crulo is proud to be able to work with students on a daily basis, to see them over come any struggles and to come out achieving their goal at the end of the day or semester.

She would like people to know how versatile the CEC Online program is, that a student can have other major things going on in their life but can still have access to a wonderful educational platform.

We are so happy to have Mrs. Crulo as a part of the CECOLC team since 2021.

CECOLC is excited to announce that we are starting up a chapter of the National Junior Honor Society for the online school!

We are looking for motivated students who demonstrate qualities of scholarship, leadership, character, community and service to be a part of this national honor society! Below are links to a few documents; one is about the benefits of being part of the national honor society, and the Forms link is for the application to apply to be a part of the honor society. Click here to view the selection process for students at CECOLC

Applications are due on March 27th by the end of the school day if you wish to join! Details of what is required to apply are in the documents but keep in mind you will also need 1 letter of recommendation from a coach, mentor, or adviser (not a teacher!) from an extracurricular activity you participate in attesting to your leadership and character.

Please let me know if you have any questions! You can reach me at johnpaul.dieffenthaller@coloradoearlycolleges.org

Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up in May! The CEC marketing team would like to put together a video of what our parents, students, and teachers appreciate about CEC teachers. Even teachers can appreciate their fellow teachers! We are asking for video submissions of you saying what you appreciate about teachers. We are combining your clips into one video, so please keep it brief at 10-20 seconds max. Please send your submissions to marketing@coloradoearlycolleges.org with the subject line “Teach Week.” In emailing us a video submission, you are giving CEC permission to use it on their website and/or social media. The submission deadline is April 14.
