Meet Executive Director Roger Scott
Welcome Executive Director Roger Scott
We are pleased to announce Dr. Roger Scott has accepted the position of Executive Director for Habitat McLean County as of December 26, 2021.

Roger spent 37 years in education as a teacher, a coach, and administrator. He brings those skills to the Habitat McLean County team, along with seven years experience as a volunteer.

He is part of the dedicated Retired Crew, who are the build volunteers with the most experience and skills. Many serve as Project Directors, directing the rest of our volunteers on every step of a house build. Roger is currently one of four Project Directors for the Makala/Mbembi family build on West Locust in Bloomington.

"What a great experience to work alongside the actual homeowners and enjoy comradery with other Habitat volunteers," Roger said when asked about his experience with the Retired Crew. "I can guarantee anyone who volunteers for Habitat McLean County will feel better and experience a boost in your physical, mental, and emotional health."

Roger served on the Habitat McLean County Board of Directors until his appointment as Executive Director. He also serves on the Development, Construction, and Marketing/Outreach committees and has been a regular volunteer at the ReStore. His committee work will continue and he hopes to still serve as a Project Director and a ReStore volunteer as time will allow.

When the Executive Director position became open, Roger was immediately drawn to the opportunity to combine his passion for building affordable housing with his skills as a motivator, collaborator, and team leader. As he knew most of the staff already through his multiple volunteer roles, he also knew he wanted to be part of this team.

"I’m excited to start on the new journey of being the Executive Director of Habitat McLean County," Roger said. "I believe in the mission of this Christian housing organization that has help more than 700 people construct, rehabilitate, and preserve their homes in McLean County."

Email Roger with congratulations, words of encouragement, or suggestions. His door is always open!
Special thanks also go to Tom Gerschick, who filled the role of Interim Executive Director for the last 5 months. We thank him for his exuberant passion for Habitat McLean County and for always reaching for the stars. He has spent literally decades volunteering with us: 20+ years as academic advisor to the ISU Campus Chapter; at the ReStore and build sites; and as a longtime member of the Board of Directors. He continues working on special projects through the end of January. Thank you for your service, Tom!

Thanks to everyone who continues to give your hardworking neighbors a hand up, not a handout by sharing your valuable time, talents, and treasure.

If you haven't tried swinging a hammer with us, please consider volunteering this year on a build site. Want hammer-less volunteering? Then, the ReStore is the place for you. Or, maybe you’d like to join a committee? We have several to choose from and we’d love to have your help.
