Happy New Years to all members of Idaho Association of Health Underwriters. First and foremost, thank
you for being a member of IAHU. By being part of IAHU, you are part of a bigger voice helping to shape
the health insurance industry in Idaho. In the past year we have been involved in helping to shape the
new rules surrounding Medicare Supplement and keeping our schools out of the State insurance group,
just to name a few. Nationally we have gotten legislation passed on the “No Surprises” act and many
other victories.
We have a lot of exciting things coming this year for our members. February 3 rd is our State Day on the Hill. You should have gotten an email to register. If you have not, please go to our website and find the link to register. We are also planning to start the morning off with a CE worthy event to help educate
everyone on the new rules surrounding Medicare Supplements, which go into effect March 1 st , 2022. More to come on this event. April we will have our Annual Health Symposium. This year the event will be in person at WAHOOZ in Meridian. If you have never been to an event there, it isn’t just for kids.
They have a wonderful conference facility. We are looking for vendors and sponsors for this event. What for the SAVE THE DATE email and registration information.
The end of February will be the National Capitol Conference in Washington, D.C. This will be the first in-person meeting the National Association has had an in-person gathering since the onset of COVID in March of 2020. Everyone is extremely excited to attend. The state does have some funds available to
help off set costs. Please reach out to your local presidents for more information. With YHI Open Enrollment behind us, well sort of, we know it hasn’t been a smooth one. YHI took on a great deal of responsibility in October leading up to Open Enrollment. They are struggling and we all know it, THEY know it. As frustrated as we may get, please understand they are well aware of the situation and the frustration we are all feeling. Please be kind and patient. The first year with Healthcare.gov wasn’t smooth sailing and remember how they kept extending the deadline? Did that help? Please know that YHI is working as hard as possible to get through this and our patience and
kindness will help.
Again, THANK YOU for being a member of our organization and please feel free to reach out to me at
anytime.
-Guy Stubbs

Coeur d Alene, ID – The North Idaho Association of Health Underwriters (NIAHU) collected close to $5,000 to buy gifts and supplies for the Youth Acute Psychiatric and Pediatric units at Kootenai Health. Each teen was surprised with a garbage bag sized sack full of items on their wish list, which included socks, personal hygiene supplies, shoes, art supplies, books, blankets, stuffed animals, and clothing. The pediatric patients received Lego sets to help keep them entertained during their stay. This year, the behavioral unit was short on DVD players for all the patients that were in quarantine, so we were able to fulfill those as well.
“I look forward to wrapping the gifts each year because the items on their wish list reminds me not to take simple things like socks, deodorant or warm blanket for granted. The gifts that were distributed will bring so much joy to these children & teens,” stated Malia Rogers, a member of NIAHU.
Over the past twelve years, NIAHU has donated close to $45,000 worth of toys, board games, clothes and have fulfilled the Christmas gift lists of teens and younger patients at Kootenai Health.
