A MESSAGE FROM SR. PRINCIPAL, MR. TOLZDA

Dear St. Serra Parents,

Imagine if you could make St. Serra Catholic School better than what it already is. What would you change, who would it impact, and how would it benefit our students and staff? This is the growth mindset of continuous improvement; never being complacent, never being satisfied with the status quo, continuously pushing forward. At St. Serra, we have plenty of growth opportunities for ourselves and our children. From closing the academic achievement gap to providing a learning environment in which our children can excel, we never want to become complacent.

Being complacent means that we are satisfied with how things are. The current standard of excellence becomes “good enough.” Being complacent is surely the easier route, especially when you have a great school such as St. Serra. However, we simply cannot afford to fall into that trap. What’s ultimately at risk? Our children and our school. That’s why it’s important that we continuously audit everything that we do at St. Serra. When we take a closer look at something such as a curriculum, a protocol, a rule, or a program, we must ask ourselves, “does this benefit our students and staff?” If it does, we keep it and look at ways of improving it. If it doesn’t, we do away with it. Often we hear someone say, “we’ve always done it this way.” Just because something has worked in the past does not mean it is the best way to go now, or that it is what is best for our students.

In the very near future, we will be developing a strategic plan for our school’s future. This will be our roadmap; our goals and guiding principles for St. Serra going forward. It will define where we want to go in the next five years, and the steps we intend to follow to get there. Our vision must include having a growth mindset, and we must always have the courage to make changes that benefit our students.

"For waywardness kills the simple, and the complacency of fools destroys them.”

- Proverbs 1:32

We cannot, and will not, be complacent at the expense of your children, our students.

Always striving,

Tim Tolzda

Sr. Principal
