This Month's Display:
Teacher Appreciation Week
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 8-12, 2023! Teachers and educators regularly go above and beyond for students, using minimal resources to provide extraordinary learning experiences. In turn, teachers deserve higher compensation, adequate resources, safer schools, and our respect and appreciation.

The library celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week this May by showcasing the newest resources in our collection for and about teachers and educators.

Thank you, teachers. We appreciate you!
Research Tip:
Using WorldCat Discovery
At the top of the RHEC Library's homepage is a quick search box that uses an application called WorldCat Discovery to help you find and access resources available not only at our library but libraries worldwide, with a single search.
Here's an example. Let's say I want to research the topic social emotional learning. I go to www.education.edu/library and type "social emotional learning" into the quick search box. I want to see all results--books, videos, and articles--so I keep it on the Everything tab.
When I perform a search in WorldCat Discovery, I will get a list of results sorted by relevancy, with RHEC Library holdings shown first. Tools on the left-hand side of the page can narrow the results, by format, publication year, library holdings, language, etc.

If you are only interested in resources held by our library, you may click the Roanoke Higher Education Center Library radio button.
I see a result for a print book that is held by RHEC Library. If I click on the link that says At Roanoke Higher Education Center Library, it will take me to the library catalog, showing its availability and its location on the shelf.
I also see a result for an eBook, owned by RHEC Library. I can click View eBook to access it.*

*Full-text access to most electronic content is only accessible when connected to the RHEC on-campus network, via wired access or wifi.

To access O'Reilly titles select your institution as "Not Listed" and enter your academic email address ending in .edu
Now I see an article I'm interested in, but the RHEC Library doesn't have access to it. If I click on the title I will see additional information, as well as a button to request it through interlibrary loan.

If I click on the Request Item through Interlibrary Loan button, after signing in I'll be taken to a request form already populated with all the article's information. I submit the request and within 1-2 days it's waiting for me in my inbox!
What else can I do with my results? I can save them in a list to keep track of my research and email that list to myself or others. I can also create citations for results automatically in any format from APA to Turabian!

Consider trying WorldCat discovery the next time you perform research. It's an easy way to search all different types of material, even beyond just books and journals. Results may include videos, films, theses, dissertations, encyclopedia articles, music, archival material, and more. All of the world's library collections are one search away!
