A native of Chicago’s South Side, Nancy Johnson writes at the intersection of race and class. She worked for more than a decade as an Emmy-nominated, award-winning television journalist at CBS and ABC affiliates nationwide. We are working to build a robust group therapy program at Summit Center for children and teens. Therapy groups are a supportive alternative to individual therapy focused on specific topics such as anxiety or executive functioning skills. If you are interested in enrolling your child in a group (6 weeks in duration) for our Spring 2022 session (beginning the week of February 28, 2022), please indicate your interest and availability using this form.
We will announce groups by early January via email. If you have any questions or would like more information about groups, please email Alyssa at info@summitcenter.us.
New Book: Teaching Twice Exceptional Learners in Today's Classroom
The new book Teaching Twice-Exceptional Learners in Today's Classroom, by Emily Kircher-Morris is out from Free Spirit Publishing. It is a comprehensive and user-friendly guide that provides a roadmap to educators for understanding and educating 2e students. Dr. Dan Peters recommends it for parents of 2e students who are looking to advocate in their child's schools.
"If we don't have the conversation [about race] we can pretend that it doesn't exist. And we can continue doing things as we've been doing them, like continue perpetrating racial harm. I think that opening it up and having an honest conversation is important."
