Join the Buffalo Bayou Partnership for their 14th annual KBR Kids Day at Tony Marron Park. Additional Dose VS. Booster Shot
COVID-19 hospitalizations, positivity rate, and wastewater virus load are trending down. Although we are likely on the backend of another surge, it’s important to remember each surge is deadly for our friends, families, and communities.  
   
As you’ve likely heard, the CDC now recommends additional doses for some populations and booster shots for other populations. The information is understandably confusing. 
 
American Rescue Plan Act Survey
Now is the time for communities across Houston to let the City know that investing in:
  • quality, accessible childcare,
  • crime prevention,
  • solid waste, and
  • affordable housing
are important to you!
The City is conducting a survey to collect input on how to allocate approximately $400 million coming to the City through the American Rescue Plan. The City needs to hear from you on how best to spend it. Please take a few minutes to fill out the survey here.

The House on Mango Street
Join a creative community exploration of The House on Mango Street, by Mexican-American author Sandra Cisneros, through an interactive line-up of bilingual events, including HPL Book Alive!: Retablos this Saturday at the Central Library. This “Retablos” workshop and presentation gives community members a chance to give life to excerpts from The House on Mango Street.

Drive-in Movie Night
Complete Communities is hosting their Second Ward movie night welcoming all residents from the Second Ward and the surrounding area.

A costume contest will also be available for kids of all ages.

Temporary Change In Traffic Pattern in Old Sixth Ward
Demolition of the old 2100 Memorial Senior Living Facility is now underway. In order to accommodate the demolition process, beginning November 1, 2021, North Memorial Way will become one-way westbound from Henderson continuing around the corner to Hemphill and State Street. This traffic pattern will be in effect during the demolition phase, which is expected to be complete by the end of February 2022. Construction of the new replacement senior living facility will then follow.
Free Lawn Care Program
Free lawn care service is available to seniors and people with disabilities who can no longer maintain their front lawn. Residents of Fifth Ward, Kashmere Gardens, and Near Northside areas are eligible.

Free Testing for Lead & Copper Water
Houston Public Works has extended the survey to offer free water testing for qualified homes that may have lead & copper pipes.

Lead and copper enter drinking water primarily through plumbing materials. Exposure to lead & copper may cause health problems.

This survey should take no more than two minutes and will determine if customers qualify for free lead & water testing.

GRADcafé by Project GRAD is now a member of the Tejano Center for Community Concerns. GRADcafé offers free services to help youth explore education and training options, apply to college, and find financial aid.
