Books for English

Updates: The English Department is hosting a book donation drive! Please bring gently read novels and plays from previous English classes (including summer reading) to Room 207. No textbooks, please.

As students in the fall English classes are wrapping up the summer reading review, teachers are preparing to present more literary gemsfrom Shakespeare to Steinbeck and Marquez to Morrison. Students are asked to obtain a hard copy of the book for classroom use, but an audio or e-book may be used at home.

Many of the titles are available in local bookstores, public libraries, and even Riordan’s library! Please click here to see what books students will need for this semester; they are listed in order, but it is advisable to purchase all the books at once to avoid any lapses in learning.
Mass celebrating the Marianist Martyrs

On Friday, September 17, we will have our student body mass celebrating the Spanish Marianist Martyrs who perished in 1936 during the Spanish Revolution because of their faith. Students are reminded to wear their formal attire on this day.
Faith-Building Day at Six Flags: September 18

Wellness Corner

September 5-11 is Suicide Prevention Week, and we are here with the message that no one in our community is alone and suicide is preventable. Suicide does touch our community and is also the 2nd leading cause of death among people aged 10–34 and the 10th leading cause of death overall in the U.S. How can you help?

  • If you or someone you know is in an emergency, call 911 immediately.
  • If your child is in crisis or are experiencing difficult or suicidal thoughts, call the National Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273 TALK (8255) or send a text to 741741
  • Have your student come to the Counseling Department. We are here for you.

We can all benefit from honest conversations about mental health and suicide, and just one open dialog can change a life. Our goal is ensuring that all our students, friends and families all have access to the resources they need to seek help.
