Wilton Library Celebrates Grand Opening
of The Brubeck Collection
|
|
Wilton Library, Connecticut state dignitaries, and the family of late jazz legend Dave Brubeck celebrated the grand opening of The Brubeck Collection with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the library on Saturday, October 30.
U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, State Senator Will Haskell, State Representative Stephanie Thomas, and current and former Wilton Selectmen attended the celebration. Special guests included renowned musicologist Stephen Crist, Professor of Music History at Emory University. The event was livestreamed on GOOD Morning Wilton.
The Brubeck Collection was established by Dave Brubeck and his wife, Iola, as a “living archive” to Dave’s long and illustrious career as a celebrated musician and composer. The Collection is one of the preeminent jazz archives in the world, with recordings, manuscripts, documents, and photographs from Dave's career spanning more than six decades.
The archive is open to the public by appointment, during library hours, with special Open House hours.

Poetic Voices in Their Times: The Poetry of Robert Hayden and Mona Van Duyn
Thursdays, Nov. 11 & 18 and Dec. 2 @10:30am In-person event in Brubeck Room REGISTER HERE
Judson Scruton returns to the Brubeck Room to continue his 4-week literature seminar, taking us through selected works by poets Robert Hayden and Mona Van Duyn. Robert Hayden was a major black poet who was often denigrated by the literary establishment because he wrote in more traditional, classical poetic forms. Mona Van Duyn won all the major poetic prizes but was often dismissed as writing about suburban female subject matter. Both poets deserve far more recognition and study. Advance registration is required. This lecture series is made possible with the support of the Literary Series in Memory of Amy Quigley. CLICK HERE to register and for more details.
