A Message from the Executive Director
Today is the perfect day to say "thank you!" Thank you for supporting Uplift, for believing in the work we do, and for celebrating the strength and resilience of the children and families we work with.

Uplift's clinicians provided in-school grief groups to students in 37 schools during September, October, and November. Family Services grief support groups in East Falls, South Philadelphia, West Philadelphia, and the Lower Northeast will soon be pausing for winter break, and when the program resumes in January, we will reach even more children and families with the addition of groups in North Philadelphia and Center City.

The work is exciting, rewarding, and inspiring. And we have you to thank for all of it. I wish you and yours a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.
Darcy Walker Krause and
Uplift in the News
On November 12th, Uplift's Executive Director,  Darcy Walker Krause , had an Op-Ed featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer that focused on the trauma that gun violence often has on children and youth. Darcy, with help from Director of School and Community Services, Meghan Szafran, provided tips on how to support youth during this surge of gun violence and the homicides of children that Philadelphia is experiencing.  Click here to read the Op-Ed.

Additionally, on November 5th, Darcy joined host  Jamie-Lee Josselyn and  Rachel Levy Lesser , author of the recently published Life's Accessories: A Memoir and Fashion Guide , for an episode of the Dead Parents Society podcast . The trio discussed topics including how and what we remember, how we can give and get support in grief, and what purpose a simple object can serve as we move forward. Click here to listen to the podcast, and keep an eye out for details on an Uplift event with Rachel Levy Lesser in February.
Blooming Gratitude

Students in Mastery Harrity Lower School's grief support group made this lovely "thank you flower" for Uplift clinicians Lamya Broussard and Michelle Gonzalez. Each petal holds a unique message of gratitude for the therapeutic and caring support Lamya and Michelle provided. Lamya says, "It's so special and sentimental and blew me away how grateful they were for the services!" We're thankful for Lamya, Michelle, and all of Uplift's caring clinicians, and for the positive impact they have on the students they work with.
Sharing Uplift's Services With
All Communities

Uplift's Special Populations Coordinator, Teresa Mendez-Quigley, presented a workshop on Loss, Grief, and Separation to people receiving services from the Mexican Consulate in Philadelphia. Attendees included caregivers, Consulate staff, and representatives from community organizations.Teresa also discussed how to talk with children about separation, whether it be separation due to families living apart in the US and Mexico, or due to issues of deportation. Teresa has been invited back to the Consulate in January. Teresa's knowledge of Philadelphia's Spanish-speaking communities and organizations allows Uplift to serve a wider section of the City.
Thank You for
an Uplifting evening to remember!
We are beyond grateful to everyone who helped make an UPLIFTing evening our most successful fundraising event ever! Thank you to our generous event sponsors, donors, ticket buyers, and auction item donors, our hardworking staff and volunteers, our vendors who made the event look great and run smoothly, and everyone who played a part in raising over $290,000 to support Uplift's programs. This fun photo shows attendees with bid numbers in the air during the paddle raise, which brought in $39,000 to fund new Family Services grief support groups in North Philadelphia and Center City. Thank you!
