National Healthy Skin Month
November is National Healthy Skin Month and with our skin being our largest organ it is important we treat it right.

Keep your skin in good condition all year long with these great tips:

  1. Protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays by seeking shade, wearing protective clothing and using broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
  2. Wash your face everyday and after exercising. Use a mild cleanser and lukewarm water.
  3. Determine your skin type - oily, dry, combination, normal or sensitive - and choose skin care products tailored to that type.
  4. Moisturize daily, applying lotion or cream while your skin is still wet from bathing to lock in moisture.
  5. Properly hydrating improves skin's elasticity, reduces oil production, flushes toxins and helps you to achieve a radiant glow!
  6. Chill Out! Stress can intensify psoriasisrosacea, and eczema. It can trigger a flare-up of fever blisters as well as cause hives and other skin rashes.
  7. Consider using petroleum jelly to moisturize dry skin and nails and to treat minor injuries.
  8. Examine your skin regularly for signs of skin cancer. Look for new or unusual spots, as well as anything changing, itching or bleeding.
  9. Don't skip out on your yearly skin cancer screening with a board-certified dermatologist. If you have a history of skin cancer your doctor will recommend having a bi-annual screening or depending on severity a quarterly screening.

Voluma XC FDA-Approved for Chin Augmentation
When you step into a seasoned dermatologist’s office for your cosmetic needs their goal is one thing, facial harmony. Although it is easy to get caught up in the latest fad of wanting Kylie Jenner’s lips or Angelina Jolie’s cheekbones, facial symmetry is what gives us that “pretty face”. Chin augmentation is an often overlooked, yet commonly effective way to achieve your perfect look. Juvéderm Voluma XC is one of several hyaluronic acid-based injectables in Allergan's Juvéderm family of fillers. Voluma has been a go-to for injectors looking to add volume and contour their patient's cheek area. Experienced injectors have been using Voluma for years to define the chin as an off-label treatment. Now, the recent FDA approval expands the use of this product to include the chin region.

Schedule your cosmetic consultation with one of our board-certified dermatologists and get holiday ready with November’s filler promotion.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2nd Annual Halloween Costume Contest. We had over 400 votes and the results are in!

ASK DR. G
“Dr. G., last month you told us what to do if our identity is stolen, but is there a way to prevent it from happening?”

Great question!!! As you know, prevention is the best medicine and preventing identity theft is easier than you think and far easier than having to deal with the consequences.

  1. Keep your Social Security number secure. Do not carry your Social Security card in your wallet.
  2. Don't share your personal information (birthdate, Social Security number, or bank account number) just because someone asks for it.
  3. Take your mail out of your mailbox every day. Place a hold on your mail when you are away from home for several days.
  4. Pay attention to your bills. a) If bills or financial statements are late, contact the sender. b) Review these statements for unusual or unauthorized transactions
  5. Shred receipts, credit offers, account statements, and expired credit cards. This can prevent “dumpster divers” from getting your personal information.
  6. Review your credit report at least once a year. Make sure they do not include accounts that you have not opened. You can order a free credit report from Annualcreditreport.com.
  7. Freeze your credit files with Equifax, Experian, Innovis, TransUnion, and the National Consumer Telecommunications and Utilities Exchange for free. Credit freezes prevent someone from applying for and getting approval for a credit account or utility services in your name.

In addition to the above you can hire a company to monitor your credit and notify you if there is a change on your report. CNBC did an evaluation of the best credit monitoring services.

Until next time.
