Karen Ip on Empowering Clients to Thrive

The essence of social services work can be described as a practice-based profession that promotes social change, development, cohesion and the empowerment of people and communities. Karen Ip, a Clinical Case Manager for Felton’s Senior Services Division who holds a master’s degree in social work and is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin, gives a more poetic description of the work she provides:

“Being a social worker is like being a gardener. We want to feed and nurture. We want to give a person what they need for them to thrive.”

The panel discussion will feature:

  • Filmmaker Tonya Lewis Lee
  • Featured fathers Omari Maynard and Bruce McIntyre
  • Executive Director of the California Black Health Network, Rhonda Smith
  • BElovedBIRTH Black Centering Program Director, Jyesha Wren

You can purchase tickets and learn more about the event and sponsorship opportunities HERE.

Our fundraising efforts will support the Black Leadership Council (BLC) with its advocacy day at the State Capitol in Sacramento in June. This fundraiser will also support the BLC by offering trainings and other educational events to the community.

The BLC is a statewide coalition of change agents, who are committed to a Black Prosperity Agenda in California, that advocates for policy reform across four pillars: Health, Wealth, Housing, and Education. Felton’s CEO, Al Gilbert, is a co-founding chair and Felton's Director of Communications, Sarah Baker, is a co-founding member.
