Video From a Polar Bear's Point of View. Scientists would love to know how polar bears spend their time and how much their behavior is changing as a warming planet results in less sea ice during the summer. But it's not so easy to do. In a few places, like Churchill, Manitoba, bears congregate on land during the summer. But many stay on the ice or find other places to venture onto solid ground. New York Times

At Ground Zero of Warming, Greenland Seeks to Unlock Frozen Assets. On top of the world, by a fjord in western Greenland, a remote hydro power plant is buzzing with extra water from the melt of ancient glaciers. This island at ground zero of global warming is seeking to be one of the few places on Earth to benefit. Outside the Buksefjord plant, the biggest of five hydro-electricity stations built in Greenland since 1993 in a push to move away from imported oil, cod that usually only thrive further south can be seen swimming in the clear water. Arctic is Looking for 'Right People.' Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin has backed the idea of establishing a body for comprehensive management of the Northern Sea Route. Yet, the functions of this body are not absolutely clear as there are dozens of proposals in this respect. Some believe there is no need to establish a new body. As of today, the Northern Sea Route Administration subordinate to the Federal Marine and River Transport Agency issues permissions for NSR navigation and certificates for ice pilotage, monitors hydrometeorological, ice and navigation situation, coordinates installation of navigational aids, selects regions to carry out hydrographic surveys, assists in organization of search and rescue operations. In general, the NSR Administration is in charge of technical issues related to safe navigation within the Northern Sea Route waters. Port News

Unmanned Drones Sail the Bering Sea. Researchers in the Bering Sea are using autonomous sailing vessels, powered by the sun and wind, to collect data on ocean conditions, fish and marine mammals in a rapidly changing, biologically rich area. At the end of May, two 6m (20ft)-tall orange autonomous sailing vessels, each with a vertical carbon-fiber wing, were set loose in the Bering Sea from a dock in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. Each of the vehicles had been programmed with a single instruction: to sail hundreds of kilometers into the southeastern Bering Sea to a bright yellow, donut-shaped buoy named "Peggy." News Deeply
