Everywhere you look this time of year, you are bound to see a few rabbits, or more, cross your path. Around here we have an abundance of marsh rabbits that are closely related to Eastern cottontails but are a bit different in that they lack a white tail and love the brackish water of the Indian River Lagoon. They even know how to swim!

The Sebastian River Area is abundant in many species of wildlife especially during the spring mating season. Chances are high you’ll spot baby gopher tortoises, baby sandhill cranes, and even a few baby bunnies. The best places to view them is exploring the many nature trails, centers, and refuges. Early mornings or late afternoons are best. Pick up trail maps at the Pelican Porch Visitor Center.
