Revisit the Top Five Westchase District Stories of 2020

2020 was unforgettable for many reasons. For Westchase District it was a year of substantial progress on major projects that are now coming to fruition. Here is a review of the top five stories from 2020:

1. Our Westchase Today and Tomorrow event featured Phillips 66 Chairman and CEO Greg Garland in a keynote talk before a packed house of commercial real estate professionals at the Houston Marriott Westchase. Garland told the audience that coming to Westchase District to build the company's new corporate headquarters was a "great decision." Distinguished panelists from Parkway Properties, Harvey Builders, EHRA Engineering, Transwestern, Woodbranch Management, Greystar, and NewQuest all affirmed a theme in Garland's talk by touting the amenities in office and living that make the District stand out from other areas of Houston. Updates presented by Westchase District at the event made the news and were reported in the Houston Chronicle. Read More

2. Speaking of amenities found in Westchase District, two companies with deep roots here reinvested and reinvented themselves in new locations that redefine how employees view desired amenities. EHRA Engineering, an 83-year old company, transitioned to new offices at 10011 Meadowglen after having been in a company-owned building on Westoffice Drive for 32 years. Meanwhile, after 32 years in leased space on Westchase Drive, Harvey Builders purchased the former Randalls corporate office building at 3663 Briarpark. Harvey and EHRA transformed their respective buildings by designing features employees love and creating spaces worthy of an "Extreme Makeover: Office Edition."  Read More

3. Despite shutdowns and a pandemic, Westchase District projects stayed on track as evidenced by TxDOT's resurfacing of Westheimer Road; the District's Westheimer Streetscape project with new, wider sidewalks, new pedestrian lighting, custom bus shelters and landscaping; and construction of the 1.7-acre Woodchase Park which launched in September. 4. 2020 marked a significant year for Westchase District as it officially turned 25. The District was created by an act of the 74th Texas legislature and signed into law by then-Governor George W. Bush on June 12, 1995. The law became effective on Aug. 28, 1995 and the newly-formed board of directors met for the first time on Aug. 29, 1995. The District celebrated by creating a special logo, sharing factoids about our history on social media and producing commemorative videos and displays. Read More

5. With COVID dominating daily life, the year ended with a bright spot embodying the American spirit as OnCue's premier Phillips 66 gas station and convenience store opened at the site for the former Kaleidescope Center on Westheimer and Blue Willow Drive. OnCue is the largest convenience store and gas station of its kind within the City of Houston limits. It offers TOP TIER Phillips 66 gasoline, gourmet coffee, fresh food and alcohol beverage selections not typically found in your average c-store. Read More

Mayor Sylvester Turner Visits Woodchase Park Site

Westchase District Board of Directors Chairman Harry Greenblatt and Vice President of Communications Sherry Fox welcomed Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner to the Woodchase Park site. Mayor Turner took time from his busy schedule to visit the site before the December holiday break. The mayor received a personal tour from representatives of D.L. Meacham, the company building Westchase's first park. Following the tour, he spoke to media in attendance about the partnership between the City of Houston and the District to bring the park to the community. The District and construction team were honored by the Mayor's visit and we can't wait to unveil even more developments as the park progresses toward its July 2021 opening.

Sneed Dog Park Will Be Something to Wag About


Construction crews are nearing completion of Westchase District's first-ever dog park. The 1.25-acre Sneed Dog Park is being built within the playground area at Sneed Elementary School at 9855 Pagewood Lane.

A fence will enclose the park which is being built as a result of a partnership with Alief Independent School District. Wagging tails can't wait to check out the park.

Stay tuned to The Wire and Westchase District social media as we announce the completion of the park which is expected to open in mid January.

Former Halliburton Campus Being Demolished,
Making Way for Mixed-Use Development 


Since the 1970s, it's been an iconic structure of Houston's prominence as the energy capital of the world. Located on Bellaire Boulevard at Rogerdale Road, the campus and buildings were once a thriving workplace for more than 2,700 employees of Halliburton. Our photo above shows a behind-the-fence peek of demolition of the former Halliburton building at 10200 Bellaire. The 568,458-square-foot building is being demolished to make way for a new mixed-use development being planned by Johnson Development Services and Gensler.
