2021 Annual Report
Our 2021 annual report is now available online. The report details our educational and programmatic impacts over the past year and highlights affiliated research in 2021. Thank you to those who have supported our vision to become a nationally recognized center where leading scholars and students generate knowledge and apply developmental science to service for children, families, and professionals to advance children's optimal development.
REU Student Research Projects
Combining their experiences in CCF's Play With Me program, research mentoring from our faculty affiliates, and their own life experiences, our REU students are now conducting culturally-responsive research in different areas of developmental science. This includes defining chaos using objective and subjective measures in Latinx families' homes, researching fathers' involvement in mealtimes when college students were children, and exploring the connections between household chaos and parental feeding practices. Screening Fair Provides Services For At-Risk Children
In collaboration with Casa del Lago in the Bachman Lake area of Dallas, CCF recently conducted a screening fair, assessing children's development, speech, vision, hearing, and language skills. Our Grow With Me program was joined by the UT Dallas Callier Center for Communication Disorders, the Social Communication Lab, the Bilingual Language Lab, and Prevent Blindness Texas to offer 27 children developmental, speech/language, autism, hearing, and vision screenings at the event. 26% of children screened for developmental issues were referred for early invention services to address concerning delays. Thank you to everyone who supported this event!
Annual Family Celebration Held at UT Dallas
Past and present families served by CCF gathered in the Bert S. Moore Memorial Courtyard at UT Dallas in June to celebrate fathers at our annual family celebration. Children and parents enjoyed games, activities, a bounce house, and a 'yard sale' with free items for families. Thank you to the many generous donors who provided toys, books, and clothing for the event, to the UT Dallas research labs and community agencies who provided activities and information for families, to our many students and volunteers who helped at the event, and to our families for braving the heat to celebrate with us! We had a blast!
From the Director
We have had a wonderful start to summer with some large events and the opening of in-person programs in places we haven't been in a couple of years because of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are grateful to be able to safely continue to operate in this way. Our REU students and their mentors are diligently working on their research projects and learning from one another about conducting culturally responsive research. We have been having many conversations over the past month about how we might scale our work and engage partners across North Texas and beyond in supporting our mission to advance children's healthy development through, research, training, and outreach. The prospects are exciting; stay tuned!
