Access to Healthcare Network
Welcomes New CEO
|
|
After nearly two decades, Sherri Rice, founder and CEO of Access to Healthcare Network (AHN), will be retiring as of April 1st, 2023. Rice, who announced her retirement to the Board of Directors in early 2022, will continue to serve AHN in a part-time advisory role. Sherri’s decision to retire will bring to a close a remarkable career of 18 years of service to AHN and the most vulnerable in our community. Sherri’s vision for Access to Healthcare Network began in 2006 with the creation of a one of a kind in the nation program, the Access Medical Discount Plan, designed to provide comprehensive access to high-quality, life-saving, and life-changing healthcare to the uninsured and underinsured in our community. Since then, under Sherri’s leadership, AHN has grown into a respected statewide nonprofit with 3 primary locations, 150 employees, and a budget of $17 million that serves over 25,000 low-income and socioeconomically vulnerable individuals and families each month. The AHN Board of Directors, staff, and the community as a whole will be forever grateful for what Sherri has worked tirelessly to create over these last 18 years.

The AHN Board of Directors is pleased to announce that it has selected Trevor Rice as its new CEO, effective April 1st. Trevor brings over 20 years of nonprofit and healthcare experience to the role, including 15 years of service with AHN and 7 years as Chief Operating Officer. The Board of Directors is very excited to have Trevor take on this new role and help lead AHN to its next chapter. His extensive experience within the organization, knowledge of the healthcare and nonprofit world, and lifelong dedication to serving those most in need will help ensure AHN continues its legacy of providing the highest level of service and support to the most vulnerable in our community.

A Good Night's Sleep Could Give Your Vaccine a Boost
|
Sleep helps the immune system respond to vaccination, according to a new meta-analysis of past research, published March 13 in Current Biology.
In it, researchers found that people who slept fewer than six hours per night produced significantly fewer antibodies than people who slept seven or more. That deficit was equivalent to two months of waning antibodies.
“Good sleep not only amplifies but may also extend the duration of protection of the vaccine,” senior author Eve Van Cauter said in a journal news release. She is a professor emeritus at the University of Chicago.

Prostate Cancer Treatment Can Wait for Most Men, Study Finds
|
Researchers have found long-term evidence that actively monitoring localized prostate cancer is a safe alternative to immediate surgery or radiation.
The results, released Saturday, are encouraging for men who want to avoid treatment-related sexual and incontinence problems, said Dr. Stacy Loeb, a prostate cancer specialist at NYU Langone Health who was not involved in the research.
