November 10, 2020
The results of the elections on the local and national levels provided interesting insights into the mood of the nation and our own county. Tourism has always been a non-partisan industry, supported by both sides of the aisle. The one aspect of the national election that is of interest to us, is the impact the country’s leadership has on America’s brand. We’ve seen it in administrations in the past that when foreign relations are strained so too is the perception of the country’s brand. This manifests itself in a number of ways, but from a tourism standpoint, it really does keep people from visiting. With the enormous growth in tourism-related infrastructure, visa processing and flight schedules, we are poised to see great gains in international visitation. This, of course, depends on getting the COVID-19 vaccine, and our tourism businesses back up and running. While there’s much still to do to get past the impacts of the pandemic, there is cause for great optimism.
