IMMEDIATE CALL TO ACTION!

EMAIL/CALL BUDGET COMMITTEE

VOICE SUPPORT FOR FULL FUNDING

NO CUTS TO

MID-MARKET & TENDERLOIN COMMUNITY SAFETY PROGRAM

This Friday June 24th at 10am at the Budget and Appropriations Committee members of the Board of Supervisors will hear public comment regarding the proposed annual city budget.

The Budget Legislative Analyst has proposed a $4.5M cut to the 2023 Tenderloin/Mid-Market Safety Program Budget with ambassadors through Urban Alchemy.

The current cut of $4.5M would eliminate approximately 40 to 50 ambassador positions. The full program provides meaningful employment and life skills to approximately 250 Urban Alchemy Practitioners who may otherwise have extreme barriers to employment. This would mean the loss o those jobs as well as eliminating coverage on up to 18 block faces that are now receiving support of this transformative program.

We are urging you to write an email as public comment to voice support for the full program budget. You can do this by emailing the clerk and cc’ing the committee and our area supervisors using the template below.

Dear Honorable Supervisors,

Please support the full budget proposal for community ambassadors through SF OEWD’s Community Based Safety Program in Mid-Market/Tenderloin. This program has been a tremendous support to our community and must continue. Any proposed cut would significantly reverse the improvements that have been made as a result.

***[Insert your personal information, name, connection to neighborhood and any comments you want to share about how the program has impacted you.]***

The current cut of $4.5M would eliminate approximately 40 to 50 ambassador positions. The full program provides meaningful employment and life skills to more than 250 Urban Alchemy Practitioners who may otherwise have extreme barriers to employment. This would mean eliminating coverage on up to 18 block faces that are now receiving support of this transformative program. It could mean the deserved quality of life that has increased for residents, businesses, youth, seniors and patrons in some of the City's most challenged, central blocks would be a loss. We know that many parts of our city are not receiving this type of support, but need here has been unprecedented and there is still much work to do. Please, now is not the time to go backwards.

The program has dramatically improved the safety, cleanliness, and general livability in some of the city's most challenged blocks. But there is still a lot of work to do and it is critical we continue and build upon these services.
