CATHEDRAL NEWS
A Message from our Interim Priest, The Rev. Dana Campbell
In Memory of Bishop Desmond Tutu

Most of us have been inspired by the life of South African Bishop Desmond Tutu. We have marveled at his brave leadership as he challenged powerful political figures, helped to end apartheid in his own country, and won the Nobel Peace Prize. We have learned from his Truth and Reconciliation Commission about the hard work of forgiveness. We have perhaps even met him or heard him preach on one of his many visits to Connecticut. To encounter Bishop Tutu has been to be changed. He has given us an example of what it looks like to live the Way of Love in a broken world.

Dean Lina Howell says, “the world and our church are better thanks to the contributions and legacy of Bishop Tutu. Personally, I have always been touched by his wisdom and humility. His legacy will continue to bless us for generations to come.”

The Lord bless him and keep him, the Lord make his face to shine upon him and be gracious to him, the Lord lift up his countenance upon him and give him peace. Amen.
Our Participation was scaled back for First Night Hartford this year due to Covid. However, artist David Borowski was able to display his artwork in our entrance for people to view. In addition, theater company The Other Voice live streamed their performance minus the audience from our Cathedral. Please check out the performance and David's art piece below.

CHURCH BY THE POND
By Nancy Jacobs, Lay Coordinator
January 2nd, 2022

Another year has begun with us gathered in prayer in Bushnell Park. Unfortunately the calendar switch did not erase the threat posed by Covid-19. We took extra precautions in using surgical masks and increased distancing at Church By The Pond.

Rev. Taylor Albright led our congregation of 15 in prayers and the celebration of the Eucharist. Father Taylor spoke of the gift of Jesus and of the awesome power of our Creator who provided everything both small and simple and large and glorious. Many prayers focused on the new year including our thanks for each other, our memories of those lost, our hopes for improved lives for others.

Christ Church Cathedral provided lunches for 20 guests following the service. Thanks to the gifts of many of our Church Street Eats family we were able to provide new socks and winter hats to all.
We thank you for your ongoing support to God's Mission. Your pledge may be send via snail mail to our Cathedral ( Cathedral at 45 Church Street Hartford, CT 06103). You may also visit our website to make your pledge or donations or simply click below.

Christ Church Cathedral serves the entire Episcopal Church in Connecticut community for the good of the whole, and is the seat of the bishops. It is "our cathedral." Our Cathedral hosts four congregations in one worshiping community. It's not a parish, as its role is unique in the diocese (see 2015 task force report & resolution). Cathedral leaders wish to remind all Episcopalians in CT that by virtue of their membership in a parish, they are members of our Cathedral. All are welcome at any time, and in particular, invited to these events .
