Music Camps @ Wallowa Lake is happening this summer! Larry Johnson, Jeff Sizer, Charlie Reneau and I, along with many other folks, have been working diligently to come up with a valuable music camp for Northwest woodwind and brass students. This is it!  https://wlmusiccamps.org/

OMEA is sharing a message with you regarding the financial situation we are facing due to the ongoing pandemic as well as our neighbors to our north, the Washington Music Education Association (WMEA).

You may not be aware of the connection between WMEA and the Northwest NAfME organizations. The WMEA executive director and other office employees, along with the NW Executive Board, organize, manage, and financially support the Northwest Conferences every other year.

WMEA, and therefore NW NAfME, are in dire straits financially and in danger of folding. Without WMEA, there could very well no longer be a NW Conference or NW Honor Ensemble event in our future. Northwest NAfME is one of the last regional conferences left in the country. This organization serves six states: Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. Washington and WMEA are the ones that are held financially liable for the NW conference and honor ensemble events, but each state receives a rebate check from conference registrations at the conclusion of each NW conference every other year to support their own state MEA's. These conferences and student events are extremely valuable and it would be a huge loss to us teachers and our students if WMEA were no longer able to support them.

While OMEA is also in a precarious position financially, we are doing all that we can to protect our organization so that we may continue to serve our members and provide All-State, our state conference and solo/ensemble contests for years to come. We are making cautious plans for the 2022 All-State and Conference, and will keep you up to date on our finances and plans as we get closer to the fall. We are hopeful that we will be able to make it through this fiscal year, ending July 31, and be able to recoup our losses with the 2022 events beginning with registrations in the fall.

At this time, WMEA has asked to share with you this news to keep you in the loop and to humbly ask, if you are able, to make a financial contribution to the organization to their fundraiser through PayPal. They hope to meet their fundraising goal in order to keep them afloat until the fall when the 2022 event registrations begin. Without them, there will not be any NW conferences for teachers or NW Honors Groups for students in the future.
