It’s November and that means it is National Adoption Month- a month of giving thanks for birth parents, adoptive parents, and of course the adopted children. In Department Y, we have the honor of celebrating adoptions with families every week. Adoptions, as well as family reunifications, are always the highlight. I know the emotional roller coaster the families have been on very well as I too am an adoptive parent.
My personal adoption journey began in the early 2000’s when my husband Scott and I took a leap of faith to pursue growing our family through international adoption. Our adoption agency provided us with information regarding the countries that were open for adoptions. We were drawn to India-the rich culture and the beauty and spirit of the people. We learned about the many children living in orphanages who were waiting for their forever families. We were given videotapes- yes this was back in the day of the VHS tapes- of a 4 year old little girl named Pooja.
