2023 K-12 Student Art Contest

"MARPOL at 50- Preventing Marine Pollution”


Students are asked to submit an original poster that creatively depicts the history and importance of protecting the planet and the ocean from the impact of shipping by recognizing the importance of the MARPOL Convention (International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships). The theme reflects the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) 2023 World Maritime Day Theme.

The 4th Annual Recycle Regatta concluded on March 31. Brought to you by Educational Passages, New England Science and Sailing, and NAMEPA, the Recycle Regatta encouraged unique, experiential learning opportunities for students in grades K-12.

NAMEPA at the Keep Norwalk Beautiful Earth Day Celebration


Connecticut Congressman and NAMEPA 2022 MEPA Congressional Award winner planting a tree at the Keep Norwalk Beautiful Earth Day celebration! 

NAMEPA, Fairfield Prep, & Lauralton Hall

Fairfield Prep and Lauralton Hall students joined NAMEPA for a beach cleanup at Short Beach in Stratford. Together, they collected 57 lbs of trash! Commonly found items included pieces of plastic, food wrappers, and bottle caps.

Captain Breezy Grainer

This Earth Day, Captain Breezy Grainer, a recipient of the NAMEPA Maritime Sustainability Passport Certificate and Seal, made a conservation statement at the Explorer's Club Annual Dinner, ECAD, by wearing a coral reef fish gown bought at a consignment, with accessories made from marine debris, including straws, bottle caps, cigarette butts, pharmaceutical pill bottles, plastic lids, plastic gloves, balloons, plastic bottles, plastic bags, fishing line, netting, and flip flops. Grainer also met her Deepness, Dr. Silvia Earle.

Cape Cod Maritime Museum

Cape Cod Maritime Museum, a NAMEPA partner, celebrated this Earth Day by organizing beach cleanups on Veterans Beach and Kalmus Beach on April 8th and April 15th.
