Faculty Feature: Media Arts Teacher Max Nagel
In addition to teaching in the Center for the Arts and serving as both a Whitney House dorm parent and Assistant Exchange Coordinator, Media Arts Teacher Max Nagel was recently appointed the Independent School Art Instructors Association (ISAIA) vice president. This appointment followed Nagel's recent presentation at the ISAIA conference on a new type of syllabus of his own design that he calls a "fluid syllabus."
This design utilizes the Google Suite to provide teachers with more flexibility and creative freedom without sacrificing organization or clarity for students. His fluid syllabus design allows for projects to be instantly re-scaffolded in real-time to better meet the flow, interests and intuitions of students' learning that day. A teacher can synchronize pedagogy with the students' flow while making the syllabus easier to navigate. The use of Google Suite provides each student and teacher the entirety of the class's resources and storage as an easy-to-use app that can be accessed, commented on or changed from anywhere. This is especially useful when a class is in the field making their next photograph.
With ISAIA closing in on its 100th year, Nagel (shown below) has big plans to build its foundation for the next century. Congratulations!
