New Deans' Den Blog
Friday was Brooks School's inaugural Beloved Community Day, as led by our new Dean of DEIB, Rev. Terri Ofori. The central themes of the day were: Sankofa, which is reaching back to gather the best of what our past has to teach us so that we can achieve our full potential moving forward, and Ubuntu, the realization of who you are through other people. Learn more and see photos in the latest Deans' Den Blog!

Upcoming ACT and SAT Testing
Registration is closed for the April 15 ACT at Brooks. Brooks is an unlisted test center for the SAT on May 6 and June 3. Only Brooks students can register to take the test at Brooks. The test center code for Brooks is 22584.

  • The registration deadline for the May 6 SAT is tomorrow, April 7.
  • The registration deadline for the June 3 SAT is May 4.

Brooks is not a test center for the ACT on June 10, but students who wish to take the ACT should plan ahead and find a test center near home for the June 10 ACT.

Students and/or their families are responsible for registering for the SAT and/or the ACT. Any questions can be directed to your student's college counselor or to Brooks' testing coordinator, Interim Director of the Learning Center Karina Moltz.
College Fair for Class of 2024 Students
On April 30, Brooks is hosting the annual BISCCA (Boston Independent School College Counselors Association) College Fair. The fair is open only to 11th-grade students enrolled at Boston-area independent schools. More than 100 admissions representatives from colleges and universities across the country and around the world will be in the Brooks Athletic Center from 1 to 4 p.m. Due to space constraints, and to allow our students to explore on their own, parents and guardians will not be allowed into the fair. Any questions can be directed to the Brooks College Counseling Office

Arts
Faculty Feature: Media Arts Teacher Max Nagel
In addition to teaching in the Center for the Arts and serving as both a Whitney House dorm parent and Assistant Exchange Coordinator, Media Arts Teacher Max Nagel was recently appointed the Independent School Art Instructors Association (ISAIA) vice president. This appointment followed Nagel's recent presentation at the ISAIA conference on a new type of syllabus of his own design that he calls a "fluid syllabus."

This design utilizes the Google Suite to provide teachers with more flexibility and creative freedom without sacrificing organization or clarity for students. His fluid syllabus design allows for projects to be instantly re-scaffolded in real-time to better meet the flow, interests and intuitions of students' learning that day. A teacher can synchronize pedagogy with the students' flow while making the syllabus easier to navigate. The use of Google Suite provides each student and teacher the entirety of the class's resources and storage as an easy-to-use app that can be accessed, commented on or changed from anywhere. This is especially useful when a class is in the field making their next photograph.

With ISAIA closing in on its 100th year, Nagel (shown below) has big plans to build its foundation for the next century. Congratulations!
