Throughout the year, the choices we have for outdoor travel and activities changes due to availability and weather conditions. When the long summer days of singing out by the campfire, swimming, and fishing out on the lake fade into the cold winter nights, what better way to keep your family engaged and active than embracing the elements the winter brings along with it like the snow!
World Snow Day was established by the International Ski Federation (FIS) in 2012 as the next step in the 2007 campaign called “Bring Your Children to the Snow.” The intention of World Snow Day is to promote skiing and snowboarding as the top winter sport and recreational activity, and ensure the next generation of children are exposed to the benefits, joys, and safety protocols surrounding the sport. Events and competitions to celebrate and promote World Snow Day have been scheduled in more than 42 countries across the planet, which included incentives such as free admittance, lift passes, and ski lessons.
Here in California, December brought us record snowfall which our ski resorts gladly welcomed after a dry start to their seasons. The best way to celebrate World Snow Day is to get out there and take advantage of the limited time we are given with this beautiful but cold gift of nature.
