Be Willing to Learn & Leave Your Comfort Zone

'Willingness to Learn' is a desire, wish, or readiness to acquire new knowledge and develop.
|

'Comfort Zone' is a place or situation where one feels safe or at ease and without stress.
|
|
Tips for stepping outside your comfort zone:
- Embrace the discomfort — be okay with leaving your comfort zone and challenging yourself.
- View failure as a teacher — when something doesn't go as planned, ask yourself "What can I learn from this situation?"
- Be honest with yourself — don't make excuses.

Speak out — If you witness or are the victim of discrimination, speak out.

Learn about other people — Meet new people and learn about different cultures and lifestyles. Expose yourself to the traditions, values and attitudes of others.

Learn about yourself — Learn about the traditions and values that are important to you.

Examine your attitudes — Be aware of the ideas, words or actions that belittle others and eliminate them. Speak and act as someone who respects others.

The Multicultural Center (MCC) welcomes the entire student body to be involved in MCC-sponsored events. These events are designed to acclimate students to the University environment, introduce them to important information and provide them experiences that will help them develop lifelong skills to succeed in their collegiate and postgraduate careers.
The MCC offers events that support and advance the University's commitment to diversity outlined in the University's Strategic Plan.

Freshmen Leadership Opportunities

|
Stop by and meet our Program Mentors at the Emerging Leaders Hangout on Saturday, September 25 from 1-3 pm in the RFWC Quiet Room.

Emerging Leaders offers USI freshman students the opportunity to develop new leadership skills, make new friends, and contribute to the University community. Applications for the 2021-22 academic year are due Sunday, September 26.

On-Campus COVID-19 Testing
|
|
On-campus COVID-19 testing is available for USI students and employees by appointment on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. PCR and rapid antigen testing is available. Please note, antigen testing is available on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday on DAY 5 of symptoms or exposure. For example, if you wake up with a running nose you should wait 5 days later to be tested to ensure the antigen test is accurate. Testing too early will provide false negatives. PCR testing is appropriate on days 3-5.
PCR testing is being billed to insurance. If testing for travel or other administrative reasons, Deaconess Lab will bill the patient $139.

Eagle Perks is a voucher program that gives USI students free or discounted access to Evansville events. There is one specific activity each month along with other activities that can be used anytime throughout the year.
Students can pick up a voucher at the RFWC with a valid USI ID (limit one per student). Vouchers are only available to those who have paid the current semester's activity fee.

Sexual Assault Prevention and Alcohol Education Training
|
|
Completing Sexual Assault Prevention and Alcohol Edu trainings are required for all first-year students and all student-athletes. We also encourage all of our students to complete the training as our policies and processes have changed to be consistent with federal guidelines. Students should have received an email invitation in their USI Eagles email account.
Students can access these trainings by clicking on the link in the email invitation or by logging into their myUSI account and clicking on the Everfi app, a giant white E in a field of orange (please see picture).
Students should complete the trainings prior to October 1, 2021. Completion of the trainings will ensure that a hold is not placed on a student's account. Holds will prevent students from registering for Spring and Summer 2022 classes.
Please help us to keep our campus community safe and healthy. Completing these trainings are one way to achieve this goal.

Hello Screagles! My name is Dennis Lopez Martinez, and I am a Junior majoring in Industrial Engineering. My hometown is Indianapolis, Indiana.
Why did you choose USI?
I chose USI because of the campus atmosphere. Here, you can feel the sense of community USI has built, which I love. I also enjoy the small class sizes and the fact I get one-on-one interaction with my professors, which helps me understand my courses better as well as succeed.
How did you make USI your home?
I made USI my home by getting involved. This has allowed me to make new friends, network, build my leadership skills and learn more about campus. -College is all about taking risks and figuring out where you belong. USI will always be my home, and I am proud to be a Screagle!
