State Assembly member Sharon Quirk-Silva, who represents West Anaheim, Buena Park, Cypress, Fullerton, La Palma, and Stanton, joined the Government Affairs Committee on Friday to discuss key State issues affecting Anaheim.
She addressed the COVID-19 pandemic, the economy, career technical education, the tourism industry, the entertainment industry, the State budget surplus, affordable housing, a veterans cemetery in Anaheim, waste and recycling, and a variety of other topics.

State Gains Funds from Federal Infrastructure Bill
|
|
|
|
Earlier this year, the California Chamber of Commerce urged the California congressional delegation to support the federal bipartisan infrastructure plan, pointing out that the state’s $3.1 trillion economy depends on the condition of its infrastructure. Last week, Congress approved a sweeping federal infrastructure bill that will bring billions of dollars in new transportation funding nationally and help elevate OC transportation. The $1.2T Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is a balanced program that will bring improvements to highways, and bus and rail transit.

California Jobless Rate Falls in October
as Hiring Picks Up
|
Following a lull in September, California employers bounced back in a big way last month as they added 96,800 new jobs and lowered the state’s unemployment rate to 7.3%. New data released Friday showed job gains across all but one employment sector, led by white-collar jobs in management and administration and additional hiring in restaurants and hotels. Government was the only sector to decline, shedding 4,000 jobs for the month.

Governor Takes Additional Steps to Help Ease Port Congestion Consistent with CalChamber Letter
|
|
The Governor announced last week actions the state will take to ease port congestion that are consistent with some of the requests outlined by the California Chamber of Commerce in its letter to the Governor and members of the California Legislature. CalChamber applauds the Governor for building on earlier efforts this year to ease supply chain issues, but even more must be done to address the unprecedented backlog at the ports.

Downtown Disney to Undergo Multi-Year Renovation
Starting in January

Downtown Disney will undergo a major renovation that will see the popular Earl of Sandwich shop, the former AMC Theaters and other stores demolished to make way for a new midcentury modern-designed addition to the Anaheim shopping mall next to Disneyland. Work will begin in January on this multi-year project.

Disneyland to Bring Back ‘Fantasmic,’ ‘World of Color’ and Main Street Electrical Parade in 2022
|

|
|
“Fantasmic” will return to the Rivers of America at Disneyland and “World of Color” will return to Paradise Bay at Down Town Disney in 2022. Extensive refurbishment has taken place on "Fantasmic" with work continuing on "World of Color".
The Main Street Electrical Parade will be back in time for the 50th Anniversary of the beloved nighttime parade.

Chrysalis Hits Magical Milestones

Since Nov. 2018, Chrysalis has served over 2,000 individuals and placed 600 in jobs. This month, Chrysalis celebrates their third year as a member of the Anaheim community as well as receiving a cumulative $1M in support from Disneyland Resort, which has been a champion for Chrysalis’ mission, and the partnership continues to be a driving force in helping break the cycle of homelessness and poverty.
