The Children’s Trust will soon release competitive funding opportunities for programs that support children and families in the following program areas: Family and Neighborhood Supports, Trust Academy Program Quality Supports and Innovation Fund. The Children's Trust is sponsoring a SPARK (Sports, Play, and Active Recreation for Kids) training event at least once every month. The training is for contracted Youth Development K-5 providers using SPARK curriculum for fitness. Watch the Trust Academy LMS Event calendar for future trainings.

Successfully Engaging Youth and Their Families into Services
|
|
Family is critical to a youth’s development and success, and providers can work with families to mobilize sources of support and resilience. In this Training and Implementation Associates (TIA) course, we show why engagement can be challenging, how to avoid blaming families for being “resistance”, and how to form a healthy working relationship. This online training course is available on Trust Academy and is appropriate for direct service providers and supervisors of Family Strengthening and Family and Neighborhood Support programs.

Getting Fathers to be Involved in Parenting Programs
|
|
Involving fathers in parenting programs has positive effects on children’s learning and social-emotional development. However, in some instances, it can be difficult to recruit fathers or father figures into services and keep them engaged. In this course, you will learn about diverse family structures, including the importance of using an inclusive definition of "father" You will also learn practical strategies to recruit, engage, support and retain fathers and father figures in services.
This online training course is available on Trust Academy and is appropriate for family service direct program staff and administrators.
Communities of Practice for Parenting Program providers are back up and running! Join a community where members support one another, share best practices and deepen their knowledge. All of the following CoPs are currently being offered virtually and are appropriate for direct service providers and supervisors of Parenting Programs. If you have any questions or would like additional support, please contact teamcoach@miami.edu.
We know that this uncertain time may be challenging and overwhelming for providers. We believe that, as a community, we have the strength to support one another. During this time, our CoPs will contain extra discussion surrounding COVID-19 and the impact it’s having on your programs, relationships with families, etc.
Parent and Provider Stressors & Barriers - This CoP will be held on the first Wednesday of each month from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. In this CoP, we will discuss the stressors and barriers that both you as a provider, and the families you serve, face. We will also be identifying solutions, practicing these strategies and discussing the implementation of them into your practice. Click here to sign up or log in to Trust Academy!
Creating Support Networks & Community Outreach/Recruitment - This CoP will be held on the first Thursday of each month from 10-11 a.m. In this CoP, we will work collaboratively to create networks of outreach and referrals across parenting providers in the community and discuss program recruitment strategies. You will have the opportunity to get to know other community providers, share information, and support one another. Virtual recruitment will be an ongoing topic. Are you doing Project-Based Learning in your program? In this course, learn to connect youth to real world experiences with problem-solving opportunities, while also increasing their levels of community engagement and career awareness.
Once you complete the course, sign up on Trust Academy for the 12/7 Amplifying Youth Voice peer learning session, where you and other Youth Development providers will work together to figure out how to best implement the concepts learned in the online course.

Join us to be sure you are up to date on enrollment, eligibility, reasonable accommodations, policies and procedures, and more.

Count Me In: Discovering Inclusion for Kids -learn fun, meaningful activities to do with your students to build their disability awareness, and encourage them to appreciate differences. This training helps develop Social-Emotional Skills for children.
Structures for Success - Youth both with and without disabilities can behave in challenging ways. Learn the seven basic needs youth exhibit and take away strategies for meeting these needs through positive, preventive approaches. This training is especially relevant to YEN and YAS Providers.

New Grants for Programs in Black Communities *
|
The Meek Mobilize Grants Program seeks ideas, programs and projects that activate residents and help improve life in Opa-locka, Florida City and Liberty City. Most grants will be between $2,500 and $10,000 for projects that civically engage residents, connect neighbors around causes they care about, and build programs in the areas of Health, Housing, Economic Development, Education and Community Safety. Florida Reading Scholarships Available This School Year *
|
In 2018, Florida became the first state to offer an education savings account program for students enrolled in public schools. The Reading Scholarship, administered by Step Up For Students, was created to help public school students in third through fifth grade who struggle with reading. The program offers parents access to education savings accounts, worth $500 each, to pay for tuition and fees related to part-time tutoring, summer and after-school literacy programs, instructional materials and curriculum related to reading or literacy.
Families may apply now for a Reading Scholarship for the 2021-22 school year. Starting this school year, families apply for (and manage their) Reading Scholarship Accounts through an online portal. Click the button below to get started or log in.

African-American Cultural and Historical Grants Program from State
|
The Florida Department of State is providing a grant program to provide funding for construction projects at facilities in Florida that highlight the contributions, culture, or history of African-Americans. Priority shall be given for, but is not limited to, projects that:
- encourage the design or construction of a new facility or the renovation of an existing facility in an area with great cultural significance in which no facility exists;
- enhance the beauty or aesthetic value of facilities named for significant African-Americans; or,
- restore facilities on the National Register of Historic Places.
Eligible Applicant Organizations are either a public entity or an active Florida nonprofit or 501(c)(3).
Award Amount: Up to $500,000 or up to $1,000,000 with 50% matching funds from other sources. There is no minimum request amount. Deadline: Tuesday, November 30, at 5 p.m.

FIU Looking for Underrepresented Students for 6-Week Bridge Program
|
The Golden Scholars Program is an admissions pathway for selected first-generation, underrepresented students. Students selected to be Golden Scholars will participate in a holistic six-week residential summer bridge program that offers academic preparation, individualized advising, and personal attention from staff and peers. Students in the program will have the opportunity to sharpen their academic skills and develop a support network of students, faculty, and staff by becoming familiar with the FIU community and its vast resources.
Target Eligibility Criteria:
Have a minimum 3.0 high school weighted GPA
First-Generation College Student
Florida Resident
Have a minimum 18 ACT composite score or a 900 SAT composite score

The Institute for Child and Family Health (ICFH) provides mental health services including Individual/family therapy and psychiatry for children and adolescents in Miami-Dade County. The institute accepts most Medicaid HMO’s and has funding for children of low-income families who do not have insurance. ICFH also provides individual/family therapy and psychiatry services for adults who have Medicaid.
