PSD All Workers Conference 2020!
Thank you to the 295 church workers who are already registered for the All Workers Conference (AWC)

Here is a special incentive – for everyone who is registered by the end of the business day today (Wednesday, October 14), we will draw a name to win a copy of Tim Elmore’s newest book, The Pandemic Population! You may recall that Dr. Tim Elmore will be one of our keynote presenters on Monday, November 23. He will be speaking about this topic so you will definitely want to get this book!

We are also excited about the way the workshops are coming together. We will have the workshops listed on the website next Wednesday, October 21. One of the benefits of our online conference this year is that you, as a registered attendee, will have access to the conference “hub” (website) through February 2021. AWC may look different this year, but we are excited about all that is in store for you! The excellence and commitment to supporting and equipping you for ministry while also resourcing our congregations and schools for making the Great Commission REAL remains our highest priority!

Mission West Conference - This Saturday!
If you haven’t already done so, please register for the FREE Mission West Virtual Conference THIS SATURDAY, October 17 from 11am-3pm.

WHAT IS MISSION WEST?
Ever wanted a mission conference built exactly for the needs and challenges special to the West Coast? A partnership between the three West Coast LCMS Districts (PSD, CNH, and NOW), Mission West is designed especially for West Coast leaders during these challenging times, with the quick-moving and conversational format of a virtual TED talk, plus Q&A’s with each presenter and the plenary speaker, Tod Bolsinger. Mission West is for LCMS congregation, school, and ministry leaders who want to follow Christ and His mission in our unique West Coast culture.

WHAT IS THE FORMAT?
  • Plenary speaker Dr. Tod Bolsinger presents and then participates in a live Q&A discussion.
  • Five other West Coast experts on community engagement, healthcare, and government share in TED-talk format, and answer questions.
  • All five speakers also interact with Dr. Bolsinger in follow-up Q&A time.

TELL ME MORE ABOUT THE PLENARY SPEAKER!
What type of leadership is needed in a moment that demands adaptive change?  Dr. Tod Bolsinger, the plenary speaker for Mission West and author of Canoeing the Mountains (which was named Outreach Magazine Resource of the Year in Pastoral Leadership), is uniquely positioned to explore the qualities of adaptive leadership in contexts ranging from churches to nonprofit organizations. He deftly examines both the external challenges we face and the internal resistance that holds us back.

HOW WILL I ACCESS THE EVENT?
The event will be live streamed at psd.online.church. When the event begins on October 17 you will be able to use the live chat feature to interact with our speakers and each other!

LCEF Webinar Educator Series
Education has gone through many changes during 2020 and with that, educators have had to adapt to teach and care for their students whether it was through Zoom or in person.

Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) continues to support the work of elementary, middle, high and secondary school educators by offering webinars regarding important issues like mental health.

Prayer Requests
  • For the family of Duane Rohmaller. Duane went to be with Jesus in his sleep Monday evening. We pray for peace and comfort for Duane's wife, Betty (Emeritus Kindergarten teacher at Christ, Costa Mesa, CA), his daughter, Lisa Ellwein (teacher at Salem, Orange, CA), son, Michael, their spouses, grandchildren, and friends and family. Duane served for over 45 years as a Lutheran educator, 25+ as a principal, retiring from Christ, Costa Mesa, CA, in 1999. He then served part-time in the PSD as the Director of Lay Leadership Training from 2000 - 2014. We thank God for the wonderful witness Duane was for Christ throughout his life!
  • For Gabby Vargas, a teacher at Word of Life in Surprise, AZ. Gabby recently lost her husband to kidney failure. We pray that God would wrap His arms around Gabby and her family and give them peace.
  • For Brenda Pruhs, a teacher at Christ, Phoenix, AZ, and her full recovery from cancer.
  • For Good Shepherd Lutheran Preschool in Goleta, CA, that God has his hand on their school as they enter a new season of rebuilding and change.

Our Gracious Heavenly Father,
We cry out to you for mercy during these challenging days. Lord, please heal our land, bring peace to our neighborhoods and cities, and tear down the walls of hate and injustice that divide us. Raise up your church to be a life-giving force and ambassadors of reconciliation. Empower us for action that we may model for our world the oneness in Christ, who alone is the hope of the world. Give wisdom to our civil authorities and faith leaders to make decisions and lead in directions that will result in repentance, healing, forgiveness, new directions, and peace. Father in heaven, we pray for our police officers and fire fighters. We ask for your protection, provision and encouragement for our first responders who serve our communities faithfully and sacrificially, facing risks every day on our behalf in order to preserve the peace, our lives and property. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayers. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
