Happy November and Election Day. Reminder that our center and online classes will not be happening tomorrow. Please go out and vote!

I am are excited to share with you that our lobby spaces that were under renovation has been completed. We are excited to welcome you back to our new spaces. Please take a look at our "Special Events and Workshop" section below to see what new in person classes are happening at Sirovich. Mask wearing, health screening and registration is required for all in person classes. Please email oasinfo@edalliance.org to register.

We are also excited to announce that we will be doing a Thanksgiving lunch at the Manny Cantor Center in collaboration with Weinberg Center on Monday November 22nd. If you are interested in joining us please email oasinfo@edalliance.org to reserve your seat. There are limited seats available.

We will also be distributing Thanksgiving meals to go on Wednesday, November 24. Please email oasinfo@edalliance.org to reserve a meal.

In Person Inseparable Performance

Inseparable is an object/shadow performance by two puppeteers, Spica Wobbe and Karen Oughted, which explores our common humanity through the transformative lens of a number of extraordinary older Asian American New Yorkers who are making a difference. "Inseparable" is made possible in part with public funds from Creative Engagement, supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by LMCC.

Yoga for Bone Health with Chinatamni Kansas "C" (Exercise)
Tuesdays | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM No Class 11/2 Closed for Election Day
Classic yoga class focusing on stretching, joint mobility, balance, posture, and bone density support. Safe for folks with injuries and osteoporosis. Energizing for all. No need to worry about modifications – this class is designed for you. Participants must be able to get down and up off the floor at least twice during class.

Body Smart-Felderkrais with Andrew Carter (Exercise)
Tuesdays | 12:00 – 1:00 PM No Class 11/2 Closed for Election Day
Using very slow and gentle movements, students are guided through movement patterns that improve their alignment, balance and flexibility, while reducing stress and strain in muscles and joints. Often done on a soft carpet or mat, this class is restorative, relaxing and improves posture.

Please contact the instructor first for an orientation and conversation. Andrew will ask questions regarding any injuries you may have sustained or physical challenges you face in order to ensure a beneficial experience.

Playwriting/Visual Theatre Workshop with Concrete Temple Theatre (Arts)
Beginning October 26
Tuesdays | 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM
Our theme for fall 2021-2022 workshop is: "A Fork in the Road."
Concrete Temple hopes to offer hybrid classes on Zoom and in-person. If you prefer Zoom, you will not be required to attend an in-person class. The workshop will culminate in a presentation of work at Dixon Place or via Zoom in conjunction with Dixon Place in early February 2022. Past playwriting experience is not necessary, though a desire to write is helpful. The visual aspect of the course has participants contemplating the power of an image and how one tells a story without language.

Pilates Mat with Gail (Exercise)

Pilates is for every BODY. This mat class focuses on activating core strength, the elongation of postural muscles and the awareness of breath to combat the stiffness and stress that often comes with our daily activities. Open to all levels, this class will have participants feeling invigorated with a sense of strength and peace in both body and mind.

Swiss Institute Contemporary Art Topics: Materials and Process with Julia Norton (Education)

October 13 - November 10 (5 Online Classes)
Inspired by Swiss Institute’s current exhibition Rosemary Mayer: Ways of Attaching, this course asks the question: When does an artwork become “Art”? Is it only an artwork as a completed object? Or can it also be in the process of making it? The class will include one visit by a guest artist, discussion, weekly readings, and two in-person optional field trip days in NYC.

Folk Dance with Jaki Soreff (Exercise)

Have fun and work those dancing bodies with Jaki! This class focuses primarily on international folk dances, but incorporates some folk line dances too. No experience necessary. Jaki will teach you all the basics before moving on to more advanced dance routines.

On the 2nd & 4th weeks of each month, community partner Ansonia Music Outreach leads music-drenched and visually stimulating multi-media workshops in appreciation of opera and the arts.

Balance 101 with Demetra Tsantes (Exercise)
Thursdays | 12PM – 1PM
This chair class focuses on strengthening muscles and improving flexibility to allow for the joint stability and mobility we need for walking and completing everyday tasks around the home like carrying groceries and doing the laundry. People of all abilities, including anyone who uses an assistive walking device or wheelchair or is recovering from knee, foot, hip injuries, etc, can participate. You also have the option of completing standing work, with the chair in arms-reach.

Ms. Jiao Li offers an authentic experience, teaching easy-to-pick-up movements from Chinese Traditional Dance. Enjoy for recreational & learning purposes. Bilingual instruction in English & Mandarin.
