ALVIN AILEY EXPERIENCE
On Sunday, February 23 rd , thirteen (13) HERO children, as well as parents and staff, had the opportunity to attend the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performance (a world renowned, modern dance troupe) at the Atlanta Fox Theater. For some children, this was their first time attending an Alvin Ailey performance, and their first time visiting the historic Fox Theater.

The evening featured four riveting performances, which included ten dynamic ballet pieces – both new and critically acclaimed works- such as “Revelations,” which chronicles African-American spirituality and endurance from slavery to emancipation. The children sat in wonderment as they witnessed the artistry, grace and athleticism of the Alvin Ailey dancers – tapping along with the jazz, blues and modern melodies. Some of the kids could be heard whispering and questioning the performers’ astonishing flexibility and stamina. The children thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon out (HERO provided snacks, as well), discussed it on their rides home, and shared their experiences with their parents/guardians afterwards.

H.E.R.O. is grateful to have been able to provide our kids with such a unique and 'unforgettable experience' that very few children are afforded. We look forward to continually exposing them to culturally diverse art forms.
UGA HEROS SPRING EVENT - ROLLER SKATING
Also on Sunday, February 23 rd , UGA HEROs threw their first kid event for 2020! The team of philanthropists brought twenty-three (23) H.E.R.O. children up to Athens for a day at the local roller rink. Athens Skate-Inn hosted our children and UGA HEROs members for a fun afternoon of skating and listening to music. Our children were able to play games, both on the rink and in the arcade area, and were given a lunch in between! Finally, the day concluded with rides back to Atlanta. New members of UGA HEROs had so much fun interacting with our children for the first time, and cannot wait for the next event! The H.E.R.O. children had a great time meeting new people and forming new friendships!
