Calendar Reminder
Calendar image
Remember: The teacher work day has been moved from Oct 19th to Wednesday, October 21st. There is no school for students Pk-12 on October 21st.

The revised calendar (pdf) is available at wilmingtoncityschools.com/calendars.

Green Zone Reminder
Beginning Thursday, October 22nd our WCS students that are currently attending school in-person will transition to our new Green Zone schedule:

  • Elementary students currently attending in person will attend full days Monday through Friday.

  • Middle and High School students currently attending in-person will attend for full days on Monday through Thursday. Middle/High School students will attend Fridays with an early release at 1:00pm every Friday.

Please visit Important Green Zone Updates for more details and our FAQs.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
  • Zone changes apply only to our In-Person learners. Our Virtual Ed students remain in their Virtual Ed program throughout 1st semester.
  • The Zone may change back to yellow (hybrid), or even to red (full remote), during the school year.

The stability of our schedule is dependent on the health of our students, staff, and community, and our ability to maintain appropriate staffing levels. It will take all of us working together and following safety protocols to keep our community healthy and our schools and businesses open.
Virtual Education Program
Our Virtual Education students began their school year on August 31st. Students and families are adjusting to a new way of learning and we’re here to help.

Here are some tips for our VEd families:
  • Create a daily schedule
  • Get up and ready for the day
  • Set a time to work and take breaks
  • Work in a space free of distractions
  • Take your time and read instructions carefully

Virtual Ed Assistance (also available on the Parent Resources page)

Looking ahead...
Our Virtual Ed Program is a 1 semester commitment. In November our current VEd students/families will be surveyed regarding 2nd semester.

WHS Earns Purple Star Award
WHS was one of 37 Ohio schools who recently received the Purple Star Award from the Ohio Department of Education for their commitment to serving students and families of current service members.

“Students with a parent in the military may experience six or more different schools from kindergarten through 12th grade,” said Brittany Larkin, school counselor and military family liaison at WHS. “It is my hope that through the Purple Star Designation program and training, we can further our commitment to meeting the unique needs of students and families connected to our nation’s military.”

You can learn more about our efforts to support our students of military families in a recent News Journal article.

We are #HurricaneProud of our WHS staff for taking on this initiative for our students.
Free Meals to Go!
Wilmington families can pick up meal packs free of charge for children 0-18 years old on Wednesdays through our Pre-Order program.

Check out the details at wilmingtoncityschools.com/foodservice. You can use our online order form to pre-order your meals for pick-up. Just remember to order at least 1 week prior to pick-up!

If you have a child 0-18 years old and is NOT attending WCS for in-person learning, you can pre-order 5 meal packs for Wednesday pick-up.

NOTE: With our new Green Zone schedule for in-person learners, students attending in person will get their free meals at school and will not be eligible to pick up meal packs after October 21st.
WHS Organizes Food Pantry for WCS Families
WHS has partnered with the Free Store Food Bank to provide a food pantry twice a month for families facing food insecurity. Any family with a student attending in the WCS District is eligible for this program.

Program Highlights:
  • Variety of groceries that cover all food groups
  • Families will have a choice with grocery items
  • Hygiene products available like soap, laundry detergent, and toothbrushes

Any interested family simply needs to complete their Interest Form (pdf) and send it to the high school. Someone from the WHS Food Pantry will contact them for additional information.

We hope to curb food insecurity in our great community and help our students develop into community leaders.

Helpful information from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) and the CDC:

It will take all of us working together in school, in your household, in family and friend groups, and in the community as a whole to keep our schools and business open. Please encourage your child to follow the safety guidance they are learning and practicing in school during their time outside of school.
