CARVER VOICES - JANUARY 2022
WELCOME 2022!
IMPORTANT COVID INFORMATION PROVIDED BY OPEN DOOR FAMILY MEDICAL CENTERS

Carver Center continues to be an important community resource for our community. John Rodriguez, COVID-19 Outreach Specialist, and Gabriela Saraiva were here during Carver Market hours to provide education and resources, and to schedule appointments for vaccines/boosters. They registered 8 people for vaccines/boosters!

We are very grateful they came out in the freezing weather to help keep our Port Chester neighbors and staff safe! @opendoorfamilymedicalcenters
FEEDING OUR COMMUNITY

Inflation is at an all time high and the price of groceries is skyrocketing. Many of our Port Chester families continue to struggle. We anticipate the need for food to grow in the upcoming months. In the month of December, we distributed food to 857 children, 1,041 adults, and 447 seniors at our Carver Market Distributions.

Our Food Service Program served 681 snacks and 8,710 meals to After School students at the four Port Chester Elementary Schools, the Port Chester Middle School, and to the teens who come to our Teen Center.
SOUNDWAVES MUSIC PROGRAM
Making beautiful music together

Since early last year, SoundWaves has been providing low or no cost music instruction to Port Chester children at the Carver Center on Saturdays. Guitars, keyboards, drums and ukuleles are provided free of charge. Children are having fun while learning the basics of beginner music theory. As Jim Reddoch, Soundwaves founder beautifully stated, "Life is more fun with music in it."

HAPPY 79th BIRTHDAY CARVER CENTER!

Did you know that the Carver Center has been has been serving the community’s children and families since 1943? Our humble beginnings started as a small storefront after school program for children whose parents worked in wartime defense plants. The founders were African American parents—grassroots organizers and advocates for the minority community in Port Chester. They named the organization after the renowned African American scientist George Washington Carver, who passed away in 1943. The Carver Center grew to a small food pantry and child care program that operated out of a rented synagogue basement for over 50 years.
Through our programs and services, Carver Center continues to “build brighter futures” by providing services that span a lifetime.
