CFX RECOGNIZES OUTGOING BOARD MEMBERS 
At the November board meeting, CFX recognized three outgoing Governing Board members Brenda Carey, Chairman and Seminole County Commissioner; Betsy Vanderley, Treasurer and Orange County Commissioner; and Andria Herr, Governor’s Appointee for their service.

In her final Chairman’s report, Brenda Carey, the first female Chairman of the CFX board, shared her appreciation for all that the board has accomplished, “Together we have done some great things…even through the challenges of hurricanes and the pandemic, we remained fiscally sound. This board should be very proud of what we all have accomplished in the last six years.”
BRIGHTLINE NEARS HALFWAY MARK ON EXPANSION TO ORLANDO 
Brightline’s northward expansion from West Palm Beach to Orlando is on target to complete construction in 2022, according to an update from Michael Cegelis, Executive Vice President of Infrastructure Development. Mr. Cegelis also presented Brightline’s proposed expansion plans for the Orlando to Tampa route.

The CFX Governing Board unanimously approved the construction for the SR 417 widening project from International Drive to John Young Parkway. This four mile segment features widening from four to six lanes, four bridge widenings and seven sound walls. This project is expected to begin in early 2021 with estimated completion in late 2023.

PARK AT PORT CANAVERAL, PAY WITH E-PASS COMING SOON
The CFX Governing board unanimously approved an interlocal agreement with the Canaveral Port Authority that will enable E-PASS customers to pay for parking at Port Canaveral facilities using their E-PASS prepaid toll account beginning in 2021. A similar program has been in place at the Orlando International Airport (OIA) since 2003. E-PASS customers who pay for parking electronically at OIA experience significantly reduced wait times, especially at peak times. 

“We are excited to expand the convenience of automated payment to the thousands of E-PASS customers who also use Port Canaveral facilities for cruise parking,” said CFX Executive Director Laura Kelley.
CFX NEW SMALL BUSINESS ONLINE REGISTRATION SYSTEM  
CFX launched a new online registration system that will make it easier for local small businesses to pursue exclusive contracting opportunities with CFX up to $5 million.

The new online system allows area small businesses to easily apply for, or renew, Sustainable Small Business Enterprise (SSBE) status, making the business eligible to pursue contracting opportunities. Key features of the enhanced SSBE system include:

  • Upgraded user interface for SSBE application and renewal
  • Enhanced online directory, with key-word search capabilities
  • Electronic registration applications for new businesses
  • SSBE application tracking from submission to completion

“Our goal with the Small Sustainable Business Enterprise Program and online platform is to create an equal opportunity for small businesses to participate in the agency’s procurement process and to promote small business sustainability in the community,” said Iranetta Dennis, Director of Supplier Diversity for CFX.

E-PASS CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER NOW OPEN
The E-PASS Customer Service Center located at: 762 South Goldenrod Road Orlando, FL 32822 is now reopened after closing in March 2020 due to COVID-19. The E-PASS Customer Service Center is open Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 6 PM and Saturday, 9 AM – 1 PM. CFX requests that customers entering the building wear masks and adhere to safe distancing guidelines to protect the health and safety of all.

CFX continues to encourage E-PASS customers to manage your accounts online or by downloading the new E-PASS app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store onto your mobile device. Once you have downloaded the app, simply sign in with your E-PASS account information and you’ll be ready to manage your account while on the go anytime, anywhere.
Construction to widen the westbound SR 408 exit off-ramp to Mills Avenue (Exit 11B) is now complete. The project, which began at the end of July 2020, reduces backups for drivers heading to downtown Orlando during peak travel times. In addition, numerous safety enhancements were installed including new traffic signals, pedestrian walkways, and improved lighting. A Wrong Way Driver Detection and Prevention System will also be installed in this location.

CFX held a virtual public meeting on October 28 for the upcoming SR 429 Corridor Widening Projects from Tilden Road to SR 414. 

Design team members and CFX’s Director of Engineering, Will Hawthorne, discussed project details and outlined activity nearby residents could expect during construction. Attendees also viewed a presentation detailing proposed locations of sound walls and planned corridor modifications.

Nightly Closures Scheduled at I-4 and SR 408 Interchange through November

The I-4 Ultimate project is nearing completion at the I-4 and SR 408 interchange. Nightly closures and traffic pacing operations continue to be necessary for work such as concrete pours and bridge girder placement. Modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving through the work zone.
