Downtown Shenandoah, Inc. Awarded $1 M Grant For
The Center For Education, Business & Arts
|
|
Downtown Shenandoah, Inc. is celebrating our 20th year serving the community. What better way to shine the spotlight on our nonprofit organization than by receiving a $1 Million grant from the Local Share Account Statewide Program earlier this month.
Grants totaling over $4.4 million were awarded to twelve economic development and transportation projects in Schuylkill County, according to a March 16 article on Senator Argall's website. In addition to Shenandoah, other boroughs recieved funding for bridges, infrastructure and other much needed improvemenths throughout the county.
“These projects will improve the quality of life for people across Schuylkill County,” said State Senator Dave Argall in a press release from his office. “From fixing our roads and bridges, to supporting Shenandoah’s longstanding efforts to breathe new life into its downtown, to improving the operations of local governments, these grants will be very important for so many residents of the 29th district.”
State Representative Tim Twardzik agreed. “I am proud to continuously work hard alongside Sen. Argall to secure funding for projects that will revitalize and prosper our communities,” he said. “As a Schuylkill County native, it brings me great joy to see important funding granted to projects in our beloved areas that we call home and that better serve our people,” he added.
Phase One First on The CEBA Agenda
Everything is now in place to begin Phase One which will include building the entire shell of the building. The first phase includes the commercial kitchen, Penn State classroom, and half of the co-working/incubator spaces. The second phase will include the event center with a catering kitchen, and remaining co-working/incubator spaces. The DSI team expects to start the RFP procedure later this summer.
We are looking forward to the amazing opportunities that CEBA will bring to our Schuylkill County community and are extremely grateful for this grant," said Susan Williams, DSI Executive Director. "This more than $8 million project has certainly been a challenging journey and has taken longer than originally planned. That said, the community has come together with both financial and in-kind support to keep us moving in the right direction. Keep an eye on good things coming Shenandoah's way!"

Shenandoah named One of Four Safe Routes to Parks Activating Communities in PA
|
|
The Shenandoah Borough has been named as one of four communities in the Commonwealth selected as a Safe Routes to Parks Activating Community.
Schuylkill County’s VISION, a local nonprofit organization, spearheaded the application, which received approval from the borough council. Shenandoah, VISION said, was selected from a competitive pool of nationwide applicants.
According to VISION, As part of the program, Shenandoah will receive training and coaching from the Safe Routes Partnership “to develop an action plan for improving active travel to local parks and green spaces and implement early actions from the plan.”
We are excited to bring this program to Shenandoah to improve the community’s parks and access to them through infrastructure improvements, clean-up efforts, and policy recommendations,” explained Mandy Fitzpatrick, Executive Director of Schuylkill County’s VISION. “It is our hope that the action planning process will identify key barriers to connecting residents to parks and safe areas to recreate and provide viable solutions to address the barriers.”
“Additionally, we look forward to the assistance from Safe Routes Partnership to develop an action plan that can be used to not only address barriers but identify funding opportunities to continue the work initiated through this process,” she added. Click here to learn more.
