17 U.S. Patents Issued to UNM Rainforest Innovations for UNM Technologies in April, May, and June

The U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) recently issued 17 U.S. patents to UNM Rainforest Innovations during the months of April, May, and June for technologies invented at the University of New Mexico. The patents, issued during UNM Rainforest Innovations’ 2022 fiscal fourth quarter, are for a variety of technologies created by researchers in the Departments of Pharmacy; Pharmaceutical Sciences; Internal Medicine; Molecular Genetics & Microbiology; Nanoscience & Microsystems; Pathology; Physics & Astronomy; Chemical & Nuclear Engineering; Chemical & Biological Engineering; Electrical & Computer Engineering; the Center for Biomedical Engineering; the Center for Emerging Energy Technologies; and the Center for High Technology Materials.

Lauren Bailey

Student Intellectual Property and Disclosures Assistant

The featured intern this month is Lauren Bailey, the Student Intellectual Property and Disclosures Assistant. She joined UNM Rainforest Innovations in July 2021 and assists in scheduling calls, updating records, helping with patent assignments, keeping inventors updated on their applications, and collecting references.

“As an intern at UNMRI I have learned many useful skills that I will utilize throughout the rest of my academic and professional careers. But since working here I have been able to improve my professional communication skills, which is something I know I will use throughout my career.”

Rainforest Mentor Office Hours with Stacy Sacco

For the past 20 years, Mr. Stacy Sacco has taught entrepreneurial studies at the UNM Anderson School of Management, and served as the Director of the UNM Small Business Institute. He currently is the President of Sacco Connections, a management consulting firm, and hosts a free, informational website, with 3,000+ links to local jobs, events and resources.

Mr. Sacco will be available for one-on-one mentoring where he will give guidance, coaching and perspective to enhance entrepreneurship and provide connections to resources at UNM and in the community. There are many resources available to those who have ideas that they may want to turn into a business!
