It's RUFF for the environment if you don't handle your pet's waste properly. Here are some fascinating statistics about the impact that your pet's waste can have on the county and our wonderful natural resources:
- One gram of dog waste can contain 23 million fecal coliform bacteria. An average dog produces 0.75 pounds of waste (7.82 billion fecal coliforms) per day.
- The EPA estimates that the waste from 100 dogs over a three-day period is enough to close the Chesapeake Bay to swimming and shell fishing.
- Source tracking indicates that pet waste accounts for upwards of 50% of the bacterial pollutant load in many urbanized watersheds. In some tests, it exceeded wildlife, human and livestock sources combined.

Catch the Right Connection at the Buyers/Sellers Connection Conference
|
|
The Chesterfield County Procurement Department is hosting the first Chesterfield Buyers/Sellers Connection Conference on Friday, June 2 at the Thomas R. Fulghum Center in Midlothian (13900 Hull Street Road).
The Buyers/Sellers Connection Conference will offer the opportunity for the vendor community to network with Chesterfield staff including those from both the county government and school division. Staff will be able to share their knowledge and experience of the procurement process with sellers, thereby providing resources, tools, and contacts sellers need in order to make connections.
In addition to networking and searching for opportunities within Chesterfield, vendors will have the opportunity to set up one-on-one appointments with procurement staff to talk about potentially working together now and in the future.
Registration for the event is free and open now through May 17. Refreshments will be provided.

Learn About Opportunities to Comment
on Draft of New Zoning Ordinance
|
|
In fall 2019, Chesterfield issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking the services of qualified professionals to assist the county in a comprehensive rewrite of its Zoning Ordinance, Chapter 19.1 of the Chesterfield County Code. The Zoning Ordinance serves as the primary tool to implement the Comprehensive Plan.
While the Comprehensive Plan itself has changed over time to reflect the growth and development vision for county, much of the core content of the current Zoning Ordinance remains unchanged since the 1970s. A comprehensive rewrite is under way to fully implement the future vision.
Hear from county staff about the opportunity to review and comment on draft residential and agricultural districts by clicking on the video above or by visiting https://tinyurl.com/msr9r9ms.

Wanted: Chesterfield Community Advisers for International Teachers
Chesterfield County Public Schools will welcome 30 teachers from 10 different countries for the 2023-24 school year. These teachers are coming to Chesterfield through a program called Participate Learning, which pairs school districts with international teachers seeking to relocate to the United States. They have completed the same hiring and interview process as other teacher candidates and accepted positions in Chesterfield schools.
Once they arrive in Chesterfield in July, the international teachers will need help becoming familiar with the area. Community members who are knowledgeable about Chesterfield and the school system are needed to serve as community advisers to teachers in this group. Advisers will help introduce international teachers to the community, serve as a resource and local expert and provide emotional, cultural, social and logistical support. Participate Learning provides a stipend for those who serve as local advisers. See the brochure and the flyer for more information. If you are interested in becoming a community adviser, contact Tito Luna at tito_luna@ccpsnet.net.
