Join the D10 Como Community Council Board in 2022 | |
Here’s your chance to have a bigger voice in the decisions that affect your neighborhood: Eight seats are up for election in April to the District 10 Como Community Council board.
Any community member in District 10, age 16 or older, is eligible to run. The board is volunteers like you, elected by neighbors like you.
The board recently made a change to designate board seats for renters, youth (16-24), and senior (62+). That change begins to roll out in April’s election with 1 renter seat and 1 youth seat on the ballot. If you fit these criteria, please consider running, we’re holding a seat for you! (Renters, youth, and seniors can hold other seats as well)
As spelled out in our bylaws, board seats up for election this year are:
-
One representative each from the neighborhood's four sub-districts (map)
-
Two representatives from the neighborhood at-large
-
One representative from the neighborhood at-large who is a renter
-
One representative from the neighborhood at-large who is a youth (age 16-24)
These positions serve two-year terms, through April 2024. To get on the ballot, submit a board member application.
The filing deadline is Sunday April 3. The election is April 19. You can view some basic information about being a board member here. If you have any questions or would like to know more about being a board member you can reach out to D10 Como Park at district10@district10comopark.org.

St. Paul Landmark Trees Program
The 2021 Como Neighborhood Honor Roll Nominations have closed, but it's always a great time to consider which of our Como Neighborhood TREES might be worth nomination for the St. Paul Park's Forestry Department's Landmark Tree program!
The City of Saint Paul is rich in history, culture, and natural resources. With over 500,000 trees, the urban forest of Saint Paul consists of some trees that have endured since the city’s inception. Since then, these trees have continued to provide multiple environmental, social, and economic benefits that have been instrumental in shaping our communities. The Landmark Tree program was created to locate, document, and compile a record of remarkable trees within the City of Saint Paul.
Benefits of a tree receiving Landmark Tree status:
- The tree will be posted on the interactive Landmark Tree Tour map.
- The tree will be posted on the printable Landmark Tree Map.
- The tree will be posted on the Landmark Tree List web page (with pictures!).
- The tree will be recognized by the Blooming Saint Paul Showcase along with certificates of recognition for the nominator and the owner.
- The tree will retain the Landmark Tree status for the rest of its life.

*Thanks to our neighbor Dolores Rufenacht for bringing us this idea and our Environment Committee Chair Jennifer Victor-Larsen for finding the program!

Green Ramsey - What to do with old books
Here’s how to recycle or dispose of books.
Usable books: Consider selling or donating usable books. Learn more about reuse and donation opportunities.
Unusable books: Contact your recycling hauler to see if paperback and/or hardcover books are accepted. Most recycling haulers accept paperback books. Plastic bindings and plastic covers should be removed and put in the trash before recycling books.
If your recycling hauler does not accept unusable books, you can place them in the trash.
Books that light up or play music do not belong in the trash or recycling because the battery inside may be toxic. Bring them to the household hazardous waste collection sites for free.

COVID-19 Vaccines & Testing
This week St. Paul announced a Proof of Vaccination for Negative Test Requirement for Licensed Businesses where food and/or drink is sold or served indoors for consumption. This takes effect January 19 for non-ticketed events and January 26 for ticketed events. Read more about Executive Order 2022-4 here. Read on for how to get vaccinated, boosted, or tested!
Everyone age 5 and older can get vaccinated
Free COVID-19 vaccines are available for anyone age five or older. You can get vaccinated at free clinics operated by the state of Minnesota, at health care clinics and pharmacies.
Saint Paul - Ramsey County Public Health also has COVID-19 vaccine at multiple clinics it operates. Read more at https://mn.gov/covid19/vaccine/vaxforkids/
-
Appointments are required at most clinics and registration is available online at ramseycounty.us/COVIDvaccine.
- The vaccine is free; no medical insurance or government-issued ID is required.
- Kids age 5-11 will receive the pediatric dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
- Youths must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to be vaccinated.
Visit ramseycounty.us/COVIDvaccine for updates on new clinics and registration links. Call Public Health’s vaccine phone line at 651-266-1190 (Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) with questions. Limited walk-in appointments available.
Boosters available for 16- & 17-year-olds
Saint Paul - Ramsey County Public Health now has booster shots for anyone 16 years and older who received their second dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at least 6 months ago.
Why do I need a booster shot?
- COVID-19 vaccines are very effective, but new data shows protection may decrease over time. This is normal and expected.
- Booster shots are common for many vaccines, like the flu shot or Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis).
