January 14, 2021
Today is the Deadline
Today, January 14, is the deadline for parents to email Mrs. Hand at [email protected] with intent to change a student's learning option (virtual or in-school) for the 3rd marking period. If your student is continuing with their current learning option, no further action is needed.  If your student is changing from one learning option to another, you must email Mrs. Hand today.

Quarantine
IF A HOUSEHOLD MEMBER OF A STUDENT OR SCHOOL EMPLOYEE HAS BEEN TESTED AND IS WAITING FOR RESULTS, THE STUDENT OR SCHOOL EMPLOYEE MUST QUARANTINE AND MAY NOT COME TO SCHOOL UNTIL THE RESULTS ARE KNOWN.

Quick Links

When informed an immediate household member has been tested, the student or staff who resides in the same home will quarantine until the result of the test is confirmed negative. If the result of the immediate household member's test is positive, the student or staff member who resides in the same home will quarantine for 10 days.

Students or staff who may have been exposed to anyone with COVID-19 are required to quarantine for 10 days, even if the student or staff tests negative or feels healthy since symptoms may appear 2 to 10 days after exposure to the virus. Please see the latest criteria from the Centers for Disease Control on "exposure" and "quarantine."

Please be reminded, if a student tests positive for COVID-19, families are obligated to inform the school for the health and safety of the entire school community. This applies even when we are not in person or in session. Please email the school nurse at [email protected].

Student Travel
School staff and school community members will abide by the Diocese of Harrisburg requirement on quarantine for travelers to other states.  Any school staff or students traveling outside of PA are required to quarantine for 10 days. Likewise, any school staff or students entering the US from abroad (international travel) are required to quarantine for 10 days. Since international travel includes a wide range of situations, those affected bring their individual circumstances to the principal who will consult with the Secretary for Education to make a final determination.

This applies to those who have traveled outside of Pennsylvania. It does not apply to household members who did not travel out of state. However, if the individual who is under quarantine develops any signs or symptoms or has a positive test result, their close contacts, including household members, should also quarantine.

Anyone student or staff member who is required to quarantine must notify the following:

School Nurse:  [email protected]

Attendance Office:  [email protected]
No School Monday

School is closed Monday, January 18, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Refer a Friend
If you know a friend, family member, or anyone looking for a high-quality, Christ-centered education for their children who do not already attend a Catholic school, you could receive a $250 credit toward your child's tuition at York Catholic.

York Catholic's Parent Referral Program is a win-win for everyone involved. Referred students receive an outstanding education from York Catholic, while parents of the referred families get peace of mind knowing their child is gaining so much more than just a top-notch education.  Families who refer someone who registers at York Catholic receive a $250 credit towards their child's tuition.

You, as parents, are our best ambassadors.  In order for the Parent Referral Program to be a success, we need information about individuals who may be interested in joining the York Catholic family. All you need to do is click HERE to fill out the form. If the family you refer attends York Catholic through their first semester, your family's tuition will be credited $250, spread into 4 credits applied to the months of February, March, April, and May.

It really is that simple. So go ahead. Please click on the link above and allow us the opportunity to do what we love -- help to develop, nurture and encourage children so they may grow in faith, mind, and heart. Mail or email the form to us and we will take it from there!

The Parent Referral Program is open to all parents of current York Catholic students. The tuition credit is not available for referring your own children. The $250 credit is only good toward tuition on a student's account; no cash is given, and it is non-transferrable. A referred student applies only to a new student from a non-partner school.

Thank you for all you do for our school!

Mission Collection
This January, YC will be collecting "Pennies for Life."  This is an initiative of the Harrisburg Diocese to commemorate the anniversary of Roe v. Wade by supporting the work of local pregnancy centers.  Your donations will educate people on pro-life issues and counsel post-abortive women and men. Participants are asked to donate $1 for each year of their life in thanksgiving to God for the life He has given them, and to "give life" to another person.  A baby bottle container will be placed in homerooms.  Please give generously to the Pennies for Life this January.
Thank You Collection
We as a York Catholic community would like to say thank you to all of the doctors, nurses, and staff at York Hospital's Intensive Care Unit for the care they provided for Ms. Heather Hoffman when she was hospitalized with COVID-19. Because of their exemplary service, we have Ms. Hoffman with us today.

In honor of Ms. Hoffman, Mrs. Eileen McKeague has graciously volunteered her service to collect, organize, and deliver prepackaged food and drink items to these frontline workers.  The following items would be appreciated:  individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, crackers, store-bought bags of pre-cut apples, fruit cups, pudding, energy bars, trail mix, single serve drinks such as flavored water, seltzer, Starbucks cold brew, flavored teas, etc.  We cannot accept bottled water or homemade items.  A collection box will be located at the entrances of York Catholic through tomorrow, January 15, for families to drop off their donations in the morning.

College & Career Update
College Guaranteed Admission Spotlight
At York Catholic, we have six colleges that have signed agreements with us to provide guaranteed admission with minimum criteria provided by the colleges. We are in the process of adding a seventh university to this list.  Each week, we will highlight a different college with their admission criteria for a guaranteed admission to their college.

King's College
King's College is a mid-sized, Catholic university in the northeast region of Pennsylvania. If you would like more information about King's College, please visit www.kings.edu. Here are the admission criteria for general admission, as well as a link for the Physician Assistant and Engineering programs' admission criteria.

King's College Guaranteed Admission
King's College will guarantee admission and a four-year renewable scholarship to senior year students of York Catholic High School who apply to King's College based on the following criteria:
  • minimum of a 2.75 weighted GPA
  • either 960 SAT (EBRW & Math) with a minimum of a 480 in each section or a 21 ACT composite
Students who meet the above criteria will receive, at minimum, a $16,000 annual award for 4 years which totals $64,000. The student must maintain an appropriate, pre-determined GPA based on the value of the scholarship in order to renew annually. The award can only be received for four years total. The York Catholic High School Scholarship opportunity is not transferrable to other institutions.

If students are interested in the Physician Assistant program or Engineering program, which have more competitive admission criteria, please see the information provided in the King's College Guaranteed Admission Agreement available through this link: Kings-College-Partnership-with-York-Catholic-High-School-1.pdf

Virtual Acceptance Day with King's College
The Admission Department from King's College in Wilkes Barre, PA is offering a 2nd Virtual Acceptance Day on Wednesday, January 20, from 2-3:30 PM. The admission counselor will provide a decision regarding admission during the session if all application materials have been submitted. Interested seniors must sign up in the College and Career Counseling Office or email Mrs. Phillips at [email protected] by January 19 for an opportunity to participate and to receive a pass for this event.

College Board Virtual College Fairs coming soon!
On March 7, College Board is sponsoring a virtual college fair for the Northeast region called Big Future Day. Students will be able to meet with admission representatives and gather information about college preparation. There are sessions on different days for other regions in the country, and you can attend more than one session. High school students should register at cb.org/bigfuturedays. Parents will be given the chance to login and register once their student has signed up. Please email Mrs. Phillips if you have any questions at [email protected].
