.....A light has gone out in Mississippi with the death of our Fondren neighbor, Governor William Winter. A principled, determined and courageous leader with unswerving probity and an innate sense of fairness, he was known nationally as a champion of education reform and social justice. He was likewise a hero to thousands of Mississippians sick and tired of our state’s stubborn resistance to change. He tasted defeat yet avoided bitterness and cynicism. His abiding faith, natural humility and gracious humor endeared him to leaders of the opposition with whom he forged alliances for the improvement of his beloved Mississippi. God bless him, Elise, their three daughters and their families.
